Afternoon Shift Lead Operator
Lake City Foods is a fast-growing, fast-paced food manufacturer and industry-leading co-packer seeking an experienced Line Operator/Supervisor to join our Afternoon/Second Shift team.
Position Summary
The Line Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining packaging equipment while ensuring production targets, food safety standards, quality requirements, and health and safety regulations are consistently met. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Qualifications Education & Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating food packaging equipment, including:
- Cartoning machines
- Bundle wrapping machines
- Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) equipment
- Horizontal Form Fill Seal (HFFS) equipment
Food Safety & Quality
- Perform quality checks according to established SOPs.
- Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
- Ensure all products meet company quality and food safety standards.
- Report food safety concerns to the Quality Manager for appropriate corrective action.
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, food safety policies, and personnel hygiene requirements.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and provide leadership when required.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Comfortable using computer systems and able to learn new software quickly.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must be Mechanically inclined with troubleshooting skills.
Key Responsibilities Production Operations
- Operate and maintain all aspects of a packaging line.
- Monitor machine operation and production flow to achieve or exceed shift targets.
- Perform film changes and production reconciliations at the end of production runs.
- Adjust machine settings and operating speeds as required.
- Detect and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
- Stop, reset, and clear machine jams when necessary.
- Report equipment malfunctions to the Shift Supervisor or Maintenance Department.
- Inspect products and packaging materials and remove defective items.
- Monitor line performance and ensure continuous production flow.
Health & Safety
- Work safely in accordance with company policies and OHSA requirements.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report all hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions to management.
- Follow all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Personnel Hygiene policies.
Sanitation & Housekeeping
- Oversee sanitation activities between product runs and at the end of each shift.
- Ensure compliance with allergen control procedures.
- Load and unload materials and equipment as required.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards with a focus on food safety and GMP compliance.
Leadership
- Provide support and backup coverage for the Shift Supervisor as required.
- Perform supervisory duties during absences or when delegated.
