Our client, a growing civil construction contractor in the Lower Mainland, is seeking a Lead Estimator to join their team in Langley, BC. Specializing in underground utilities, roadworks, excavation, and shoring, the company delivers commercial and large-scale residential projects for both private and public-sector clients.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced civil estimator who wants to continue estimating while taking ownership of the estimating function and providing guidance to other estimators as the team grows.
- Lead the estimating process for civil construction projects across the Lower Mainland.
- Prepare detailed estimates and competitive tender submissions using HeavyBid.
- Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and scopes of work to ensure all project requirements are captured.
- Monitor public tender opportunities and identify suitable projects for the bid board.
- Lead the bid/no-bid process and weekly bid review meetings.
- Coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing and incorporate quotations into estimates.
- Prepare quotation letters and complete bid submissions for private and public-sector clients.
- Maintain the bid board, track tender deadlines, and follow up on submitted bids.
- Participate in pricing negotiations, bid presentations, and pre-mobilization meetings.
- Complete estimate handovers to operations following successful awards.
- Train and mentor estimating staff on company processes, systems, and estimating standards.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years of civil construction estimating experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with underground utilities, roadworks, excavation, and shoring.
- Proven experience estimating both commercial and large-scale, multi-building residential sitework projects.
- Strong working proficiency with HeavyBid, including hands-on experience building detailed estimates within the software.
- Demonstrated experience bidding work for both private and public-sector owners.
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, production rates, labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
- Ability to lead and mentor other estimators while remaining actively involved in producing estimates.
- Strong communication, organization, negotiation, and analytical skills.
