About Shield Clinics
Shield Clinics is a CPSA-accredited radiology and chronic pain management practice with locations in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. Led by Dr. Sherif El-Maadawy, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta, our interdisciplinary team delivers advanced interventional pain care to a complex chronic pain patient population. Our services include fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided procedures, functional and medicolegal assessments, and comprehensive rehabilitation programs & exercise therapy.
We are expanding our allied health team and are seeking a motivated, clinically experienced Kinesiologist or Exercise Therapist to join our practice.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will work closely with our physiatry and interventional pain team to deliver individualized exercise therapy programs for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, post-procedure rehabilitation needs, and functional impairment secondary to motor vehicle accidents and workplace injuries. This role combines one-on-one patient care, functional assessment, and active participation in our multidisciplinary care model.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct comprehensive functional assessments and establish individualized exercise therapy programs for chronic pain patients.
2. Collaborate directly with the physiatrist and pain management team to co-ordinate care plans, monitor patient progress, and adjust programming accordingly.
4. Provide patient education regarding pain neuroscience, self-management strategies, activity pacing, and movement modification & importance of exercise in chronic pain setting.
5. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with clinic standards and CPSA regulatory requirements.
7. Participate in team case conferences and contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications — Required
1. Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
2. Eligibility for or current registration with the Alberta Kinesiology Association (AKA) or equivalent professional body.
3. Minimum one to two years of clinical experience in a musculoskeletal, chronic pain, or rehabilitation setting.
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in clinical documentation.
6. Professional demeanour with a strong patient-centred approach.
Qualifications — Preferred
1. CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) designation is an assest.
2. Experience working with MVA, WCB, or medicolegal patient populations.
3. Familiarity with chronic pain frameworks including the biopsychosocial model, pain neuroscience education (PNE), and graded activity principles.
4. Experience with functional capacity evaluation (FCE) or return-to-work assessments.
5. Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
