Elma Steel & Equipment Ltd., is a metal service center, established in 1970 with locations in Listowel, Owen Sound and Cambridge. The company has provided the steel requirements for customers throughout Southwestern Ontario for over 50 years.
We have a busy structural department. We are currently recruiting for the position of Structural Estimator/Architectural Technologist to fill a one year contract position.
This is an excellent opportunity for the chosen candidate to gain experience and utilize their skills with a variety of customer requirements
This position offers a wide variety of tasks which includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Prepare bills of material and shop drawings based on architectural/structural drawings for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings including metal wall/roof cladding, architectural wall/roof panels, and floor/roof decking based on drafting standards and templates..
- Ensures compliance with approved design standards and engineering principles.
- Work with Contractors and private individuals with structural requirements.
- Review shop work in process for quality control.
The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Attention to detail and a continuous learner approach to analyze and solve technical problems.
- A high level of personal organization and strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate and collaborate with project managers, engineers, supervisors and peers.
- High proficiency with Auto-CAD and Excel.
- Excellent math and reading skills. Able to proficiently speak, read and write in English.
- Able to work on multiple projects and follow up with customers in a professional manner.
- Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines..
- Experience with structural/miscellaneous steel is an asset
Academic Requirements:
Post-secondary education in Architectural Technology or equivalent experience.
One to two years of experience is preferred, but consideration of a candidate with demonstrable skills will be given.
This position can be based at either the Listowel or Cambridge branches of the company following an initial training period at the Listowel branch.

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
