OVERVIEW
The Digital Cutting Table Operator is tasked with the safe and efficient operation of numerical computer control (CNC) machinery to manufacture high-quality components. Reporting to the Sales Manager, this role will be accountable for the loading of raw materials, vigilant monitoring of machine functions during production cycles, and conducting fundamental quality assurance inspections on all finished parts. This position serves as a foundational role, offering a clear pathway for advancement into specialized areas such as machine setup and programming. While being an entry level position, we are looking for someone with an eagerness to learn with opportunity to move into a designer apprenticeship position to open a career in corrugated packaging design.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. MACHINE OPERATION & PRODUCTION (Weighting 40%)
- Loading corrugated sheets onto flatbed CNC machine, stripping finished products, managing waste and glue assembly of finished boxes.
- Loading Plywood Sheets onto flatbed CNC machine, understanding proper speed, depth and RPM requirements for clean engraving and cutting.
- Assembly of moving carts, cutting, gluing, wrapping, stapling of carpet onto plywood base. Use of panel saw, impact drill and pneumatic staple gun for full assembly. Attention to detail for a quality finished product is expected.
- Room and machine maintenance. Machine maintenance training will be provided, but keeping a clean and organized workplace is expected.
2. QUALITY CONTROL & INSPECTION (Weighting 30%)
- Expected quality will be shown in training. Employee will be expected to watch out for, identify, and report or fix quality issues.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to verify that finished parts conform to all specified dimensions.
- Immediately stop production and report any out-of-tolerance measurements or quality deviations to the Shift Lead, Setup Machinist, or Quality department.
- Monitor tool wear and tear, replacing dull machine knives when necessary, and running calibrating software when allowances move out of line.
3. SAFETY & WORKPLACE MAINTENANCE (Weighting 20%)
- Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols, including the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) when servicing within guarded areas or as otherwise required by SOP; no bypassing guards or interlocks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards, ensuring floors and walkways are free of spills, chips, or other hazards.
- Perform daily operator care (wipe down windows/guards, empty chip pans safely, check coolant/lube levels). Report alarms, leaks, abnormal noise/vibration immediately and create maintenance requests where required.
4. DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION (Weighting 10%)
- Accurately and diligently complete all required production documentation, including logs for part counts, scrap quantities (with corresponding reason codes), and machine downtime.
- Follow all detailed work instructions, setup sheets, and "travelers" associated with a job order to ensure all procedural and quality requirements are met.
- Complete travelers and ERP/labor scans in real time; avoid back-dating. Log offset changes and tool swaps. Provide clear shift hand-offs (machine status, tool life remaining, quality concerns, next priorities). Attach inspection records to the lot packet or upload per document control.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with Shift Leads, setup personnel, quality inspectors, and other operators regarding production status, quality issues, or material shortages.
- Conduct a thorough and informative shift handover to the subsequent operator, clearly detailing machine status, tool life updates, and any ongoing quality considerations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills (fractions/decimals, unit conversions).
- Ability to read basic technical drawings (views, dimensions, tolerances) or willingness to learn.
- Comfort using rulers, tape measures, calipers, and micrometers (training provided).
- Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and stand/walk for extended periods in a production environment.
- Basic English literacy for safety, work instructions, and documentation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Constant standing and frequent walking on concrete floors; occasional bending, squatting/kneeling, and overhead reach; fine motor use for small parts and gauges.
- Lift and carry up to 23 kg (50 lb) occasionally; team lift or approved devices required above this; frequent push/pull of carts and chip bins.
- Visual acuity sufficient for gauges to ~0.01 mm/0.0005 in; hear alarms/instructions in high-noise areas; sustained attention to multi-step SOPs and control plans.
- Exposure to noise, rotating/moving machinery, coolants/lubricants, chips/particulate, and variable temperatures near bay doors.
- Shift work (days/afternoons/nights) with potential overtime/weekends based on business needs.
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
