General Description
Sample Preparation Shift Supervisors will be working with rocks and preparing them for analysis as well as supervising and assisting the Sample Preparation department. These positions are not suitable for those who cannot do periodic lifting throughout the day. Due to safety concerns, contact lenses are not permitted to be worn in the labs at anytime. Strict adherences to safety procedures are required.
Education Required: High School Diploma.
Other Requirements:
- Common sense.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to handle several tasks at once.
- Able to work with little supervision.
- Computer skills an asset.
- Willingness to work overtime if required to complete projects.
- Mechanical inclination an asset.
Responsibilities:
May include some or all of the following; or any other assigned tasks directly or indirectly by the Manager/Process Owner:
- Hourly inspections.
- Sort incoming samples.
- Ensure all Sample Preparation staff are taking all necessary safety precautions and are wearing all required safety equipment.
- Ensuring Sample Preparation Technicians do not have to leave their station. i.e. bringing samples/supplies to them, ensuring that the employees are at their station on time at the beginning of each shift and after each break.
- Ensure all finished samples are stored in order in boxes.
- Maintenance of equipment in working order and required logs, files, etc.
- Assist in ensuring turnaround time meets clients and General Manager’s requirements of two weeks from receipt by working overtime when required.
- Train all employees with procedures for Analysis and Safety controls and equipment.
- Be Safety oriented with all aspects of the job.
- Update status of work orders in LIMS.
- Any other tasks as determined by Lab Manager/Process Owner.
