Excavator Operator – Marine Construction & Pile Driving
Full-Time, Year-Round | Okanagan Lake
Experienced Excavator Operator looking for something different? Come work on the water.
Shoreline Pile Driving & Wharf Construction is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join our marine construction team.
This isn't your typical excavator position. You'll operate equipment from floating barges on Okanagan Lake, working on residential and commercial marine construction projects including pile driving, docks, marinas, breakwaters, shoreline construction and demolition.
Previous pile-driving experience is a huge asset, but we're also interested in experienced excavator operators from heavy civil, demolition, excavation or similar construction backgrounds who are confident operators and willing to learn marine pile-driving operations.
What's In It for You?
- Full-time, year-round employment
- Extended health and dental benefits
- Work on Okanagan Lake
- Variety of residential and large commercial projects
- Operate specialized marine construction and pile-driving equipment
- Opportunity to expand your skills into pile driving and marine construction
- Join an established Okanagan marine construction company operating since 1983
What You'll Do
- Operate excavators from floating construction barges
- Install and extract wood, steel and helical piles
- Operate excavator-mounted pile-driving equipment and attachments
- Perform excavation, demolition, material handling and shoreline construction
- Perform crane-style lifts and safely handle suspended loads within equipment limitations
- Work closely with front-end riggers using clear hand and radio communication
- Load and unload barges, trucks, materials and equipment
- Assist with positioning and mobilizing barges and marine equipment
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Identify equipment issues before they result in downtime
- Read construction drawings, elevations and site layouts
- Work safely around water, barges, cranes and suspended loads
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
What We're Looking For
- Strong excavator operating experience is required
- Pile-driving experience is a major asset
- Experience in heavy civil, marine construction, demolition or excavation is preferred
- Excellent equipment control and awareness
- Strong understanding of rigging and lifting practices
- Comfortable operating around ground crews and riggers
- Mechanically inclined and able to identify equipment issues
- Comfortable working from floating barges and around water
- Able to read plans, measurements and elevations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Safety-conscious and dependable
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round
Additional Assets
- Experience operating excavators for pile driving
- Vibro hammer or pile-driving attachment experience
- Crane operating or lifting experience
- Steel, sheet, wood or helical pile experience
- Rigging experience
- Welding and torch-cutting experience
- Marine or boating experience
- Heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Valid equipment and safety certifications
The Right Person
We're looking for someone who knows how to operate equipment, not simply someone who has spent time in the seat.
You'll need good judgement, smooth equipment control and the ability to work closely with a rigger while handling piles, materials and equipment in a marine environment.
If you have pile-driving experience, we definitely want to hear from you. If you're a highly experienced excavator operator interested in learning pile driving and working on the water, we'd like to hear from you too.
Ready to trade the dirt for the lake? Apply today.
Please apply through Indeed with your resume and a brief description of the equipment you've operated and any pile-driving, crane, rigging or marine construction experience.
Thank you for your interest. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
