NorthCrew General Contracting is seeking an experienced Working General Foreman – Civil Construction to lead a small field crew in the Fort McMurray/Fort McKay area.
This is a hands-on field leadership position. We are looking for someone capable of independently running day-to-day field operations when company ownership is not on site.
The successful candidate must be able to take a project scope, organize the crew and equipment, plan daily work, maintain safety and quality standards, communicate professionally with the client, and keep the project moving without constant supervision.
This is not a supervisory-only position. The General Foreman will work alongside the crew and operate equipment as required.
Responsibilities
- Independently run day-to-day field operations on assigned projects
- Lead, organize and supervise a small construction crew
- Plan daily work and coordinate labour, equipment, attachments and materials
- Safely and competently operate skid steers and attachments
- Operate mini excavators or similar equipment when qualified
- Supervise and participate in culvert and drainage installations
- Supervise and participate in fence construction and post installation
- Perform excavation, grading, backfilling and aggregate placement
- Establish and maintain proper grades and elevations
- Conduct required hazard assessments, toolbox meetings and safety documentation
- Ensure workers follow NorthCrew and client safety requirements
- Ensure equipment inspections and operating-hour records are completed
- Identify and report equipment defects, damage and maintenance concerns
- Track crew hours, equipment hours, materials and daily production
- Monitor workmanship, productivity and project progress
- Communicate professionally with clients, inspectors and other contractors
- Identify potential scope changes and communicate them to NorthCrew management before unauthorized extra work is performed
- Provide regular progress updates to management
- Maintain a safe, organized and productive worksite
Qualifications
- Strong civil construction, earthworks or general contracting experience
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a construction crew
- Strong skid steer operating experience
- Experience with excavation, grading and aggregate placement
- Good equipment operating history and respect for company equipment
- Strong understanding of construction safety and hazard identification
- Ability to identify equipment and maintenance concerns
- Ability to read measurements, scopes of work and basic construction drawings
- Ability to plan and execute work without constant management supervision
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver's licence
- Ability to provide an acceptable driver's abstract
5+ years of relevant construction experience is preferred, but we will consider an experienced lead hand/operator who can demonstrate the ability to step into a foreman role.

- Previous municipal, civil, Indigenous community or industrial project experience
Candidates with strong field experience who are missing individual safety certifications are still encouraged to apply.

Schedule & Location
- Fort McMurray / Fort McKay / Wood Buffalo region
- 5 days on / 2 days off
- Approximately 40–50 hours per week
- Project locations and hours may vary depending on operational requirements
Compensation
$42.00–$48.00 per hour, based on demonstrated experience, qualifications and capability.
This position is initially project-based, with the opportunity to develop into ongoing employment as NorthCrew's workload grows.
