RECE Centre Director / Child Care Supervisor
Job Summary
Delano Academy Early Learning Centre is seeking an experienced and highly accountable RECE Centre Director / Site Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operation of our licensed Toddler and Preschool programs.
This is a senior, hands-on site leadership position for an experienced childcare professional who is confident taking ownership of the daily operation of a licensed childcare centre.
Reporting to the Executive Director/Licensee, the Centre Director is responsible for the smooth, compliant and effective operation of the Early Learning Centre. This includes staff leadership, recruitment, scheduling, licensing compliance, inspection readiness, family relations and overall centre operations.
We are looking for a proactive and experienced childcare leader who takes ownership, exercises sound judgment and is comfortable making day-to-day operational decisions independently.
This is not primarily a classroom position. However, the Centre Director is expected to maintain a visible presence throughout the centre and be willing to step into a classroom or support the team when unexpected staffing or operational needs arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the licensed childcare centre
- Serve as the senior on-site leader and Ministry-approved Child Care Centre Supervisor
- Ensure continuous compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Ontario Regulation 137/15, Ministry of Education licensing requirements and applicable York Region and Public Health requirements
- Maintain the centre in a state of continuous licensing and inspection readiness
- Act as the primary on-site contact during Ministry of Education, York Region, Public Health and other regulatory visits
- Lead the recruitment, interviewing, onboarding and supervision of RECEs, ECE assistants, supply staff and other centre employees
- Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing and ratio compliance throughout the centre's operating hours
- Proactively manage staff absences, scheduling changes and emergency staffing requirements
- Supervise, coach and mentor centre staff and provide clear feedback and direction
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, professional conduct and performance
- Conduct staff meetings and participate in staff performance evaluations and performance management
- Ensure required staff files, training, certifications and regulatory documentation remain complete and current
- Regularly monitor classrooms, program documentation, daily written records, attendance, medication records, incident documentation and other required centre records
- Conduct regular internal compliance reviews and promptly correct identified deficiencies
- Ensure centre policies and procedures are consistently understood and followed by all staff
- Build professional and positive relationships with children and families
- Serve as the senior point of contact for day-to-day parent questions, concerns and operational matters
- Conduct prospective family tours and Welcome Visits and confidently communicate the centre's program philosophy and standards
- Support the onboarding and transition of newly enrolled children and families
- Ensure Toddler and Preschool programs align with How Does Learning Happen? and the centre's program philosophy
- Maintain a visible and active presence throughout the centre and regularly observe classroom operations and educator practice
- Step into classrooms and provide temporary staffing or ratio support when unexpected operational circumstances require hands-on leadership
- Identify operational, staffing, licensing or compliance risks and take appropriate action
- Escalate significant legal, licensing, safety, financial or reputational matters to the Executive Director/Licensee
- Ensure appropriate leadership and staffing coverage is in place throughout the centre's operating hours
Qualifications
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Minimum two years of experience providing licensed child care
- Eligible for and able to obtain Ministry of Education Director approval as a Child Care Centre Supervisor
- Demonstrated child care leadership, supervisory, Assistant Supervisor, Site Supervisor or Centre Supervisor experience strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) and Ontario Regulation 137/15
- Experience with Ministry of Education licensing requirements, regulatory compliance and licensing inspections
- Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching and supporting child care staff
- Experience developing staff schedules and maintaining staffing and ratio requirements
- Strong leadership, judgment, organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to address staff performance and operational concerns confidently and professionally
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer and administrative skills
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification, or ability to obtain and maintain required certification
- Vulnerable Sector Check and required health documentation
The Ideal Candidate
You are an experienced childcare leader who notices what needs to be done and takes action.
You understand that successful centre leadership requires more than maintaining ratios and completing paperwork. You are comfortable leading staff, addressing performance concerns, managing unexpected staffing issues and maintaining a centre that is consistently prepared for licensing and regulatory visits.
You are highly organized, calm under pressure and able to make sound day-to-day decisions without requiring constant direction.
You lead from the floor, not solely from an office. You are willing to roll up your sleeves and support your team when needed while maintaining responsibility for the overall operation of the centre.
Most importantly, you take genuine ownership of the centre's daily success.
Hours and Schedule
- Full-time, permanent, 12-month leadership position
- Monday to Friday
- 40 hours per week
- Daily schedule will vary based on centre operational requirements
- Flexibility is required to provide leadership oversight across opening and closing operations and to respond to urgent staffing, licensing, safety and centre operational matters
Compensation
Salary: $70,000–$83,000 per year, commensurate with demonstrated childcare centre leadership, supervisory and licensing experience.
Benefits available in accordance with the terms of the organization's group benefits plan.
