Overview:
The Operations Manager at New Life Electric plays a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day function of the company. This role oversees job planning, quality control, material coordination, training, safety, and systems optimization. It is a leadership position requiring both strategic insight and strong organizational execution to support our field teams and maintain high standards across every project.
Position Overview:
- Position Status: Operations Manager (Office Back-End)
- Reporting To: President (Ryan), in collaboration with Office Administrator and project Leads
- Liaise With: Field Team, Vendors, Office Staff, Clients
- Expected Hours of Work: Full-time
- Compensation: Based on experience and leadership contribution
Role:
To organize and manage the daily operations of New Life Electric, ensuring all work is scheduled efficiently, executed safely, and meets the company’s standards of quality and professionalism. This role acts as the operational backbone of the company, enabling tradespeople to work effectively by removing obstacles and creating systems that support success.
Responsibilities:
Daily & Weekly Operations:
- Schedule and manage daily operational workflows and crew assignments to keep projects on time and running smoothly
- Ensure job sites are prepared and equipped before the start date
- Conduct site visits to assess progress, safety, and quality
- Work with the Office Admin to ensure Contractor Foreman systems are maintained and up to date
Project & Crew Management:
- Manage major and minor projects to ensure work is on-time, on-budget, and of high quality
- Lead weekly operations meetings with tradespeople to discuss upcoming jobs, challenges, and expectations
- Ensure all pre-job and quality assurance checklists are completed by field staff
- Monitor crew performance using weekly KPI sheets
- Complete back costing on jobs within 5 days of completion
- Ensure all change orders (variations) are quoted and approved prior to execution
- Perform regular performance reviews as outlined in the yearly planner
Training & Team Support:
- Conduct ongoing training and coaching for crew members and apprentices
- Run safety meetings and toolbox talks regularly
- Address staff performance issues proactively and constructively
- Support hiring efforts alongside the leadership team
Materials, Safety & Systems:
- Oversee and assist with material procurement and delivery coordination
- Office to follow up with field for any material or workflow clarifications by 2:00 PM.
- Ensure vehicles and storage areas are clean, organized, and up to safety standards
- Ensure all company vehicles are maintained, insured, and inspected according to provincial regulations
- Contribute to the development and fine-tuning of internal systems, including workflows and software tools
- Monitor and manage safety performance and regulatory compliance
- Check in with the field daily around 2:00pm and make the schedule for following day
Strategic Involvement:
- Participate in weekly leadership meetings to review:
- Financial health and job profitability
- Staffing needs and performance
- Safety issues and resolutions
- Team morale and culture
- Opportunities for improvement in tools, processes, and client experience
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Jobs ready to start on time with materials and labor aligned
- All checklists (pre-job, QA, safety) completed as scheduled
- Job costing completed within 5 days of project close
- Weekly crew coaching sessions and operations meetings completed
- Team KPIs tracked and improved over time
- Company systems (e.g., Contractor Foreman) up to date and well used
- Vehicle and equipment compliance maintained
Personal Attributes & Qualifications:
- Red Seal Electrician (preferred) or high-level trade/electrical knowledge
- Strong leadership, delegation, and coaching abilities
- Organized, proactive, and systems-oriented
- Clear and confident communicator
- Comfortable managing people, systems, and logistics
- Familiar with both residential and commercial/industrial electrical work
- Experience using project management software (Contractor Foreman or similar)
- Passionate about quality, safety, and team development
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $85,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
