Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Anesthesia Assistant to support our anesthesia team in the endoscopy suite, providing safe and effective sedation care for patients undergoing colonoscopies and upper endoscopies (EGD). The ideal candidate will assist with preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment, monitoring patient status before, during, and after moderate sedation, and ensuring smooth patient flow through an endoscopy unit. Strong communication skills, familiarity with anesthesia terminology, and a commitment to patient care are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Assist anesthesia providers in preparing anesthesia equipment and supplies prior to endoscopic procedures
- Monitor patient vital signs, oxygen saturation, and sedation levels throughout endoscopy procedures under supervision
- Support turnover between cases
- Maintain accurate documentation of anesthesia administration, sedation levels, and patient responses in the medical record
- Ensure anesthesia carts, airway equipment, and monitoring devices are functioning correctly and report malfunctions promptly
- Support the team by organizing supplies and managing inventory of anesthesia and sedation-related materials
- Follow strict infection control and reprocessing protocols specific to endoscopy environments
- Communicate effectively with patients pre-procedure to provide reassurance, review NPO status, and gather relevant health history
- Assist with patient positioning and airway management support during procedures
- Monitor patients through recovery until sedation-related discharge criteria are met
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, hospital policies, and endoscopy unit protocols throughout all duties
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to anesthesia/sedation
- Previous experience or training in an endoscopy suite, ambulatory surgery center, or anesthesia support role is advantageous but not required
- Familiarity with moderate sedation
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially in a fast-turnover procedural setting
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary GI/anesthesia team
- Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and maintain patient confidentiality
- Compassionate attitude with a focus on patient safety and comfort during often anxiety-inducing procedures
- Must be able to work occasionally when needed in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism at all times
Pay: $55.00-$85.00 per hour
