Position Summary:
The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of sustainability initiatives across venue operations. This role works closely with operational teams, vendors, and clients to ensure environmental best practices are integrated into day-to-day activities while meeting organizational sustainability goals. The Sustainability Coordinator oversees waste diversion programs, recycling and composting initiatives, food recovery efforts, and sustainability reporting. They are responsible for monitoring compliance with environmental policies, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and resource consumption, and educating staff on sustainable operating procedures. This position plays a key role in collecting and analyzing sustainability data, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), and preparing reports for internal stakeholders and clients. The Sustainability Coordinator also assists with the development of sustainability plans for events, collaborates with suppliers to source environmentally responsible products, and supports certifications and environmental compliance requirements.
This role pays an hourly rate of $26.00 CAD.
This is a temporary role that will start July 18, 2026, and will end on August 17, 2026

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee venue sustainability initiatives and environmental programs.

Monitor waste diversion efforts, including recycling, composting, and landfill reduction programs.

Conduct regular waste audits and identify opportunities to improve diversion rates and reduce waste.

Track and report sustainability metrics, including waste diversion, energy consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Prepare sustainability reports for management, clients, and stakeholders.

Support the planning and execution of sustainable event operations in collaboration with clients and internal departments.

Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations, corporate sustainability policies, and venue standards.

Develop and deliver sustainability training and awareness programs for staff and event partners.

Promote sustainable practices throughout all food and beverage operations, including responsible sourcing and waste reduction initiatives.

Coordinate food recovery and donation programs in partnership with local organizations.

Work with vendors and suppliers to identify environmentally responsible products and packaging solutions.

Monitor inventory of recycling, composting, and sustainability-related supplies.

Perform routine inspections to ensure waste stations are properly maintained, labeled, and utilized correctly.

Collaborate with Operations, Culinary, Warehouse, and Housekeeping teams to improve sustainable operational practices.

Assist in developing and implementing annual sustainability goals and action plans.

Support environmental certifications, audits, and client sustainability reporting requirements.

Research industry best practices and recommend innovative sustainability initiatives.

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to sustainability programs and compliance.

Participate in event planning meetings to ensure sustainability objectives are incorporated into operational plans.

Respond to sustainability-related inquiries from clients, staff, and external partners.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of operational and organizational sustainability objectives.
Qualifications:
Knowledge & Skills

Strong understanding of environmental sustainability principles and best practices.

Knowledge of local environmental regulations and waste management requirements.

Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting sustainability data and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
