Complexity and Scope of the position:
Windrose Survivor Support Navigators provide emotional support, information, accompaniment, referrals and practical assistance to survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, physical and sexual childhood abuse, criminal harassment, elder abuse and other forms of gender-based violence. Services are provided from a feminist, survivor-centred and trauma-based perspective in accordance with Surrey Women’s Centre policies and procedures.

Staff in this role are required to provide availability for a minimum of 4 shifts per month. From time to time additional hours may be required to fulfil the duties of the position.
This position is part of a program that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Available shifts include 12:00 am – 9: 30 am; 9:30 am – 5:00 pm; 5:00 pm – 12:00 am.
Experience and Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field and/or a combination of education or experience.
- Demonstrated experience providing crisis intervention, emotional support and practical assistance to survivors of gender-based violence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of working within a feminist, trauma-informed, harm reduction perspective
- Ability to work alongside diverse clientele including marginalized populations
- experiences multiple barriers
- Working knowledge of community resources, services and relevant provincial protocols related to gender-based violence.
- Professional level verbal and written communications
- Ability to work alongside diverse clientele including marginalized populations experiences multiple barriers
- Ability to work well under pressure and in changing situations
- Ability to speak additional languages an asset
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support and practical assistance to all survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, family violence and other forms of gender-based violence.
- Provide in-person accompaniment for survivors seeking medical care from hospitals in the Fraser Health region and/or to Windrose Allied Survivor Support Program.
- Provide in-person accompaniment for survivors wishing to report violence to Surrey Police Services and/or Windrose Allied Survivor Support Program.
- Provide over-the-phone support to those seeking information and support following a recent incidence of violence.
- Assess the safety of survivors and work alongside survivors to mitigate ongoing safety risks.
- Assess survivor’s needs and provide appropriate referrals and resources as needed.
- Coordinate immediate access to basic emergency resources including food, shelter, clothing and transportation.
- Provide comprehensive information about medical and legal reporting options to ensure survivors know their legal rights and remedies.
- Assist with and support survivors to understand alternative reporting options including Third Party Reporting and Bad Date Reporting.
- Promote the interests of survivors navigating complex medical, legal and social service systems.
- Maintain positive relationships with key medical, legal and social services stakeholders including Surrey Police Service, Fraser Health and others.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sexual Assault Services.
- Maintain accurate up-to-date client records including documentation of all client contacts, referrals to and consultation with community agencies and working professionals.
- Support and participate in SWC special events and fundraising events as requested.
- Promote community awareness of program, services and issues related to gender-based violence.
- Work as a team to foster positive morale and cooperative working relationships with employees, volunteers and other key stakeholders.
- Orient, train and support new employees, volunteers and practicum students on a case-by-case basis.
