EWP Designer / Estimator

As part of our design and estimating team, the EWP Designer/Estimator prepares take-off designs and estimates for engineered wood products and related systems. You will support residential and multi-family projects by creating accurate floor system designs using proprietary software, while providing technical support to customers, sales teams, and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare professional floor design drawings, quotes, material lists, and proposals using design software Simpson Strong-Tie iStruct Software.
- Create three-dimensional (3-D) models and two-dimensional (2-D) drawings with CAD.
- Consult with architects, engineers, builders, and customers regarding project plans, specifications, and design issues.
- Size structural members (beams, joists, columns, LVL, I-joists, etc.) using software and product tables.
- Estimate costs and materials accurately while ensuring compliance with Ontario Building Code and industry standards.
- Maintain project files, update job tracking systems, and provide sales/customer support as needed.
- Assist in resolving design problems and offer creative, practical solutions.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- 2+ years of experience in design work, blueprint reading, and technical drawing (preferably with engineered wood products).
- Experience with EWP design software Simpson Strong-Tie iStruct Software is a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
- Solid knowledge of construction terminology, building materials, engineered wood products (LVL, I-joists, glulam, etc.), and building codes.
- Proficient in calculating loads and resolving design challenges.
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, and graphical).
- Organized, proactive, and a team player.
