Deconstructors Demolition Inc. is growing our Nanaimo-based field crew and looking for dependable people who are ready to work.
We have opportunities for both entry-level Demolition Labourers and experienced Skilled Labourers. Whether you are hoping to get started in the construction industry or already have practical experience with demolition, carpentry, renovations, concrete, excavation, or another trade, we would like to hear from you.
Our work includes demolition, careful deconstruction, hazardous-material abatement support, site preparation, material recovery, and construction-waste diversion. We do demanding work, but we take pride in doing it safely, professionally, and responsibly.
The Work
Your responsibilities will depend on your experience, demonstrated abilities, and the needs of each project. Typical duties include:
- Preparing and organizing active work areas
- Completing selective demolition and dismantling
- Removing drywall, flooring, ceilings, cabinetry, fixtures, and other building materials
- Using hand and power tools safely
- Moving and organizing tools, materials, equipment, and debris
- Sorting materials for recycling, reuse, salvage, or disposal
- Assisting with concrete demolition and site-preparation work
- Setting up barricades, signage, access controls, and containment areas
- Maintaining clean and safe work areas
- Looking after company tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Participating in toolbox talks and completing required safety documentation
- Following instructions, project requirements, and safe-work procedures
- Working cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and other trades
Entry-Level Labourers
Previous demolition or construction experience is not required for an entry-level labourer position.
We will provide training and supervision to applicants who:
- Arrive reliably and on time
- Are willing to learn
- Listen carefully and follow instructions
- Take workplace safety seriously
- Are comfortable performing physical work
- Contribute positively to a team
- Treat coworkers, clients, and company property with respect
This is an opportunity to develop practical experience in demolition, construction, tool use, material handling, environmental services, and job-site safety.
Skilled Labourers
Skilled Labourer applicants should have previous experience in construction, demolition, renovation, carpentry, concrete, excavation, abatement, or another relevant field.
Depending on your skills and training, you may also:
- Complete more detailed or technical demolition work
- Work independently after receiving instructions
- Safely use a broader range of tools and equipment
- Assist with measurements, layout, planning, and work sequencing
- Recognize and communicate job-site hazards
- Support productivity and quality expectations
- Help guide less-experienced crew members
Position level and compensation will be based on relevant experience, certifications, demonstrated abilities, and the responsibilities assigned.
Experience and Certifications
The following are assets but are not required for every position:
- Demolition or selective-demolition experience
- Construction, renovation, or carpentry experience
- Concrete demolition or concrete cutting
- Excavation or site preparation
- Hazardous-material abatement experience
- Equipment operation
- Fall-protection certification
- Aerial work platform certification
- First aid
- WHMIS
- Traffic-control certification
- Asbestos certification
- Other recognized construction, equipment, or safety training
Applicants are not expected to hold every certification listed. Additional training may be provided according to project and position requirements.
Physical and Working Conditions
This is active, hands-on work. Applicants must be prepared for lifting, carrying, bending, standing, climbing, repetitive movement, and being on their feet throughout the day.
Projects may take place indoors or outdoors. Conditions can be dusty, muddy, noisy, or affected by changing weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with all company safety procedures are required.

Additional Details
Our primary work area is Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island. Some projects may require travel to other Island communities.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to satisfy any project-specific safety, security-clearance, or funding requirements.
