Cardinal Interiors is a mid-market drywall and finishing specialist in Calgary. We work on all varieties of new construction & renovation scopes for general contractors, custom home builders, and discerning homeowners. Running a documented workflow on every job, schedules don't collapse onto your tools, and the bid we sold is the job we actually build.
We're growing, but we're not chasing volume. We'd rather do fewer jobs better than more jobs worse.
Who You Are
We are seeking a skilled, experienced drywall finisher to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the quality and finish of our drywall and interior surfaces on various residential and commercial projects in Calgary . As part of our team, you will contribute to transforming spaces with precision and craftsmanship.
What You'll Do
Your primary role is taping and finishing drywall to the level the job specifies — no more, no less, but always done right.
PRIMARY — TAPING & FINISHING
- Run finishes across all levels — Level 1 through Level 5 — to GA-214 industry standard
- Embed tape, bed accessories, skim fasteners, and feather joints with consistency from job to job
- Use setting-type compound (hot mud) on butt joints and humid assemblies; lightweight for finish coats
- Sand between coats; check your work under raking light before signing it off
- Apply fire taping on rated assemblies to UL specification
- Inspect your own work at end of shift — flag anything you find before the next trade hits the wall
SECONDARY — HANGING, INSULATION & TEXTURE
At some points, you may also be asked to:
- Hang drywall on smaller scopes, repairs, and rooms where the crew needs an extra set of hands
- Handle small insulation repairs — batt replacement, vapour barrier patches, fixing what got opened up for plumbing or electrical
- Apply or help out with applying ceiling textures — knockdown, orange peel, popcorn — including matching existing texture on renovation work
- Help out on service calls and warranty visits when necessary
What You Bring
- 3-5 years of taping experience (residential, commercial, restoration or all)
- confident running all levels of taping (including Level 5) to industry standard & higher
- Solid drywall hanging skills — square cuts, proper fastener pattern, screws set right
- A team & culture driven attitude-you lend a hand and help your teammates especially when it's "not your job".
- Excellent people skills - you are clean & courteous in both appearance & with your job sites, representing your team & company in the best possible light
- A quality eye - You can spot lap marks, ridges, and visible seams under raking light before paint
- Hand Tools - Own taping kit (knives, hawks, pole sanders, lights); we supply mixers, lifts, mechanical tools, scaffolds, etc
- Comfortable on stilts and scaffolding for ceiling work
- Valid Class 5 drivers license & vehicle
What Success Looks Like
- Your work passes phase inspection on the first walkthrough, consistently
- Defects are caught in-process, not at the customer walkthrough
- You hit estimated labour hours per phase within ±5%
- Customers don't call us back about your work — and when they call about other things, they ask for the taper who did the job
