The Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society (NSHCHS) is a non-profit charitable organization, dedicated to providing supportive housing for Japanese seniors. The Society operates two residential facilities: Nikkei Home, a Supportive Housing and Assisted Living residence, and New Sakura-so, a housing complex for independent seniors aged 55 and over.

NSHCHS Resident Services supports all programs, services and the staff, residents and families of the organization. These services are being delivered to support the requirements of a licensed healthcare organization to provide a healthy and safe environment to comply with legislated requirements, funding and contractual agreements.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Resident Services Manager, this position is accountable to assist the independent residents by providing assistance with their activities of daily living in an independent home similar to home support activities. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society.
Resident Services Program
· Assist the resident/family by supporting the independent activities of the resident’s daily living by providing general services such as: light housekeeping, garbage control, laundry management, reading correspondence, bed making, completing maintenance request form, shopping companion, walking buddy, reading out loud, completing maintenance request form and gardening companion.
· Responsible to perform eligible approved add-on services such as meal preparation, running errands, accompany to appointments such as bank or shopping, use of public transportation, assist with dinner party for family, packing, transport to airport, etc.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Customer Service/Communication
· Demonstrated customer service skills in a patient care or residential environment.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively provide quality services for staff, residents, family, public and stakeholders.
· Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, residents, family and external contacts through interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
· Demonstrated skills as team player using clear and professional language.
· Ability to fully participate in departmental activities including on teams.
· Ability to multi-task, handle variety of demands and manage workload priorities in a calm, professional manner.
· Ability to handle confidential matters and information.
Human Resources
· Work collaboratively with all staff, residents, families, and external contacts.
· Participate and support departmental and organizational activities.
Operational Management
· Follow employee health and safety programs in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
· Comply with equipment programs to ensure equipment is in working order, make recommendations for improvements on equipment.
· Comply and participate in departmental and annual audit programs to include all aspects of Helping Hands activities.
· Participate fully in education/training sessions for staff.
· Monitor equipment functioning and report malfunctions, maintenance and repair requirements to the Resident Services Manager.
· Complete and maintain documentation to support Helping Hands program requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
· People person that has a heart for seniors and a positive, can-do attitude.
· Interest and knowledge of Japanese culture an asset. Japanese language skills an asset.
· Grade 12.
· One (1) year’s recent related experience in a patient care or customer service environment.
· Previous experience in a home maker related position.
· Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Ability to work independently and as a strong team player.
· Ability to deal with others effectively.
· Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
· Ability to analyze and resolve problems.
· Ability to operate related equipment.
· Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
· Fully vaccinated as per current Provincial Health Orders (PHO).
· Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
