Hybrid Work Arrangement
At CDA-AMC, employees participate in a hybrid workspace arrangement that allows for flexibility and enhanced work-life balance. This position follows a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of 2 days onsite, though this requirement may vary based on business and operational needs.
Primary Focus
We are seeking to fill a current opening on our Communications team. Working as part of a collaborative Communications team, the Communications Officer will support a portfolio of work assigned by leadership, contributing to the development and delivery of integrated internal and external communications plans, products, and activities. Working closely with colleagues across CDA-AMC, the Officer will provide communications advice and create audience-focused materials that support organizational priorities, projects, and initiatives.
Corporate communications at CDA-AMC are delivered by a team of professionals with expertise in internal, external, and digital communications. While team members may have areas of focus, everyone contributes across a range of communications activities and brings diverse skills to support the organization’s overall communications goals.
What do the daily responsibilities look like?
On any given day, the Communications Officer will:
- proactively work with internal subject matter experts to conceive and write audience-appropriate content for the corporate website, intranet, social media channels, events, and presentations aimed at diverse audiences
- serve as the primary editorial strategist and writer for the intranet, using SharePoint to publish content and maintain a cohesive and engaging digital experience for employees
- develop communications materials that help employees understand, adapt, and embrace new opportunities and ways of working
- simplify the findings from complex reports into clear, compelling, and accessible content for technical and nontechnical audiences
- coordinate, write, and distribute broadcast emails to subscribers and interested parties
- establish objectives and implement tactics to clearly communicate the value of the work of CDA-AMC and the findings of high-profile reports and projects to pan-Canadian health system decision-makers
- provide communications support, advice, and updates, including analysis and recommendations, to the Communications Manager and/or Chief Communications Officer
- incorporate best practices in search optimization and writing content for the web and other digital platforms that increase the readability and accessibility of CDA-AMC content
- ensure the delivery of high-quality content with consistent audience-appropriate language by working in close collaboration with graphic designers, copy-editors, translators, and digital publishing specialists
- build and maintain a database of health system influencers — partner organizations, health care thought leaders, government departments and decision-makers, academic groups, industry leaders, and others — to ensure that messages from CDA-AMC consistently reach intended audiences
- contribute to the measurement, benchmarking, analysis, and reporting of the effectiveness of communications activities as well as analyze results to recommend improvements and expand the reach of CDA-AMC
- uphold the reputation of CDA-AMC and align communications with visual identity and brand guidelines, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and French language requirements
- support public affairs team members at CDA-AMC by collaborating with experts to prepare briefing notes and other necessary communications.
Is this the right role for you?
The Communications Officer will likely have:
- completed postsecondary education from a recognized academic institution in a related field, such as public relations, journalism, or communications, coupled with recent related experience, which is normally attained over a period of no less than 3 years; additional related experience may serve as a suitable equivalent for completion of postsecondary education
- extensive experience researching, writing, editing, and producing corporate collateral
- exceptional writing and editorial skills
- proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, with demonstrated experience in site administration, content strategy, and overall intranet best practices and governance
- a proven ability to work well under pressure and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- knowledge about social and traditional media, including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook
- a self-starting mindset with a natural curiosity to investigate details and drive deliverables to completion
- the ability to adapt the complexity, tone, and style of communications to suit different audiences
- a strategic mindset with an understanding of Canada’s health care environment and can connect and align content with organizational priorities and relevant external dynamics
- an attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively, take initiative, and function well in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- effective time management and prioritization skills
- a proven ability to balance and deliver on multiple projects
- experience establishing communications measures and plans, tracking results, and analyzing and reporting on outcomes.
