Alpha House Project is a long-term program for women and children who have left an abusive relationship. Alpha House provides counselling and practical supports to the families within a secure living environment. The Children's & Family Counsellor is responsible for the programming and delivery of the children's and parenting programs under the supervision of the Director.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conduct an intake for both mothers and their children
- Assess and develop individual need-based therapeutic plan
- Meet weekly for individual sessions with all children age 5 years old and up
- Meet weekly for individual sessions with each mother to work on parenting goals
- Facilitate Parenting Groups throughout the year
- Provide Family Sessions
- Provide clinical assessments and safety planning
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of assessment, planning and evaluation, and counselling provided for each client
- Liaise with community resources and service organizations
- Adhere to all agency policies, protocols and best practices
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social services or related fields
- Minimum three (3 years) counselling experience, including working with children
- Combination of relevant education & experience will be considered
- Experience working with children impacted by family violence
- Experience in group facilitation
- Comprehensive knowledge of gender-based violence
- Thorough knowledge and clinical experience related to risk assessment, crisis intervention, trauma recovery and mental health
- Knowledge and application of a range of clinical interventions
- Training in Attachment and Play Therapy are considered an asset
- Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of diversity
- Ability to function independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work under pressure and stress in a fast paced, changing work environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
