Schedule: Weekend Days | 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM (8-hour shifts)
Job Details
We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Developmental Support Worker (DSW) to provide one-to-one support for a child with complex developmental and behavioural support needs. The successful candidate will implement a Behaviour Support Plan, promote skill development, assist with activities of daily living, and facilitate meaningful social and recreational activities in the home environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the client's Behaviour Support Plan using positive behaviour support strategies.
- Support the client with activities of daily living, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and other personal care needs.
- Facilitate structured recreational, educational, and community-based activities that promote engagement and skill development.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment while ensuring the client's wellbeing.
- Effectively manage and respond to challenging behaviours, including aggression, impulsivity, and other behaviours of concern, using approved intervention strategies.
- Encourage communication, social interaction, and participation in daily routines.
- Observe, document, and communicate any behavioural or wellbeing concerns to the family.
- Work collaboratively with the family to ensure consistency in care and support.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for the client's dignity at all times.
Requirements
- Diploma in Developmental Services (DSW) or a related human services field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Cerebral Palsy, or other complex support needs.
- Experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans and supporting individuals with complex behaviours, including physical aggression, impulsivity, and behaviours that present safety risks.
- Comfortable providing personal care and supporting individuals with mobility limitations.
- Experience supporting individuals with limited verbal communication and using alternative communication methods is an asset.
- Strong understanding of positive behaviour support practices and de-escalation techniques.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and observational skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-pressure situations.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and confident in planning and leading structured activities throughout the shift.
- Compassionate, reliable, and committed to promoting the client's independence, safety, and quality of life.
Required Certifications
- Valid Developmental Support Worker (DSW) Diploma (or equivalent education).
- Current CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
- Valid Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Lindsay, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
