Job Description
As part of a dynamic design team, you will assume a key technical leadership role, serving as the primary technical resource for the Design team while overseeing the design execution of major projects. In this role, you will influence technical direction, coordinate key project phases, and contribute to innovative fire protection solutions on high-profile projects.
Your main responsibility will be to design automatic fire sprinkler systems and produce drawings that comply with current codes and standards. You will also support project management activities and provide technical guidance to ensure successful project execution.
Your challenges will include, but are not limited to:
Acting as the technical authority for the Design team by providing mentorship and guidance to Designers, validating complex technical solutions, establishing design standards and best practices, supporting technical decision-making, and ensuring consistent quality, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle
Participating in project planning by assessing design constraints, timelines, and construction considerations
Working closely with project managers, engineers, installers, and other trades to ensure proper coordination, problem-solving, and alignment of project objectives
Performing BIM coordination, 3D modeling, and participating in interdisciplinary coordination meetings
Reviewing, verifying, and adjusting drawings throughout the project lifecycle to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
Designing fire sprinkler systems and positioning sprinklers in accordance with current codes and standards
Preparing detailed drawings based on architectural, structural, and mechanical plans using AutoCAD, Revit, and HydraCAD
Conducting field surveys to gather information necessary for accurate design and installation drawings
Identifying material requirements, ordering materials based on coordinated drawings using HydraList, and supporting procurement activities
Success Factors
Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and significant experience
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset
10 years of experience in fire protection drafting
3 years of team leadership experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
Knowledge of HydraCAD is considered an asset
Knowledge of the standards and codes governing the design and installation of automatic fire protection systems
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
