Cafe Attendant - PART TIME - Saskatoon
Sophie's Cafe (located in the Aquifer Distribution building) is looking to add a PART TIME Cafe Attendant to our busy cafe! The hours for this position are typically 8:30am to 1:00pm Monday to Friday. The Café Attendant plays a key role in delivering professional, high-quality customer service while supporting the daily operations of the café. With responsibilities in food preparation, front-of-house service, and maintaining a clean, organized environment, this position helps ensure the café runs smoothly and efficiently. The Café Attendant is responsible for consistently preparing and presenting food and beverages according to established recipes, portion standards, and quality expectations. With a strong focus on both product quality and customer satisfaction, this role supports our commitment to excellent service.
The ideal candidate for this position has a friendly and outgoing demeanor, is able to handle pressure, and is familiar with safe food handling and preparation. Professional baking and catering experience is an asset!
Please note: This is a permanent part-time position and not a summer role. Applicants must have ongoing availability, as summer-only applicants will not be considered. This position also cannot accommodate a daytime school schedule, as operating hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We are not open evenings or weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and serve customers promptly with courteous and professional service.
- Prepare and assemble food and beverages according to recipes and café standards.
- Ensure food safety and hygiene standards during food handling and service.
- Stock and replenish supplies in front-of-house areas, including condiments, utensils, and displays.
- Ensure the café is clean and organized, including dining areas, counters, and service stations.
- Monitor product freshness and rotate stock to minimize waste.
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately, handling cash and card transactions.
- Complete opening and closing duties, including setup and take down of service areas.
- Address customer inquiries courteously and escalate to management when necessary.
- Support inventory management by reporting low stock or supply needs to management.
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth café operations and positive customer experiences.
- Assist with preparing, packaging, and organizing catering orders to ensure accuracy and timely delivery or pickup.
- Assist with occasional baking, food preparation, or special event setups as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Food Safety Certified or ability to become certified.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in customer service required.
- At least 1 year of related experience to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Food Safety Certified is an asset.
- Must be able to stand for long periods.
