JOB OVERVIEW
REPORTS TO: Manager, Operations Finance
Join one of Canada’s fastest-growing retirement living organizations. Spring Living Retirement Communities is seeking a Financial Analyst to become the dedicated finance partner for a portfolio of 4 to 5 retirement communities. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Finance, this role works directly with Executive Directors and operational leaders to support the financial health and performance of each home.
This is more than a traditional accounting role. The Financial Analyst owns the full accounting cycle for assigned communities, prepares monthly financial statements from start to finish, analyzes operating results, explains key variances, and helps leaders make informed decisions. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting discipline, curiosity, and a practical business-partner mindset to a collaborative and growing finance team.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
- Own the full month-end close process for a portfolio of 4 to 5 retirement communities, ensuring reporting is complete, accurate and delivered on time.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, account reconciliations and complete monthly financial statements.
- Maintain strong supporting documentation for balance sheet accounts and key operating results.
- Review financial statements for reasonableness and investigate unusual trends or variances before final reporting.
Operations Finance & Business Partnering:
- Act as the primary finance partner to Executive Directors and department leaders for assigned communities.
- Review monthly results with site leadership and clearly explain variances, risks and opportunities.
- Monitor occupancy, labour, agency staffing, care revenue, food costs and other operating metrics that impact performance.
- Translate financial results into practical insights that support day-to-day operational decision-making.
Controls, Compliance & Cross-Functional Support:
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, reporting requirements and internal control expectations.
- Work closely with Accounts Payable, Payroll, Revenue, Operations and Corporate Finance to resolve issues and improve reporting accuracy.
- Support year-end audit requests and respond to information requests from auditors and internal stakeholders.
Acquisitions & Continuous Improvement:
- Support the onboarding of newly acquired communities, including opening balances, account mapping and reporting setup.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and enhance the quality of financial reporting.
- Provide backup coverage and support other finance team members during peak periods, vacations or special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- 2 to 4 years of progressive accounting or finance experience; retirement living, healthcare, real estate or multi-site operations experience is an asset.
- Experience preparing full-cycle monthly financial statements, including journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations.
- CPA designation, enrollment in the CPA program or interest in pursuing CPA is considered an asset.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems; experience with Yardi is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
