POSITION SUMMARY:
This position entails the teaching, instructing, and supervising of classes that seamlessly blend dance, fitness, and the rhythms of Afrobeats music. The instructor will have an appreciation for African culture and music and bring substantial knowledge of the Afrobeats genre, its dynamic dance movements, and its rich historical roots to every class. The ideal candidate will inspire and support participants through workouts that are not only enjoyable but also culturally enriching, creating a welcoming environment where individuals can celebrate and engage with the energy of African dance and music.
Reporting to the Fitness Manager, the Afrobeats dance instructor should thoroughly understand the cultural significance of Afrobeats, including its historical context and dance movements. It is essential for the instructor to respect African cultures while connecting with a diverse array of participants and honouring the authenticity of the music and dance style.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Group Fitness and / or Dance Instructor (e.g., BCRPA, ACE, ISSA, NASM), or equivalent experience.
- A strong understanding of the cultural, historical, and social aspects of Afrobeats and African dance forms.
- A passion for leading engaging Afrobeats dance classes that combine cardiovascular exercise with authentic African dance movements.
- A commitment to creating a welcoming space where participants from diverse backgrounds feel comfortable and confident in embracing the movements, music, and cultural expressions of Afrobeats.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity by respecting African dance and music traditions and expressions.
- The ability to break down complex dance movements and present them in an accessible way for participants of all fitness levels.
- A deep personal connection to Afrobeats and African dance, along with a genuine passion for sharing this with others.
- Valid First Aid and CPR (Standard / Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C preferred, or equivalent)

EXPECTED WEEKLY HOURS: 1 – 4
COMPENSATION RANGE: $30.00 - $50.00 plus 4% in lieu of benefits (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)

Pay: $36.50-$50.00 per hour
Licence/Certification:
- Group Fitness or Dance Instructor Certification (preferred)
- First Aid Certification (required)
