Junior Athletes is a recreational sports program that helps children build fundamental skills, confidence, sportsmanship, and a positive relationship with physical activity. Our programs are designed for children of all experience levels, with an emphasis on learning, inclusion, and having fun.

Junior Athletes Coaches lead pre-developed sports sessions at the RA Centre and at community locations in Barrhaven, Kanata, and Orléans. Coaches may work at one or more locations depending on program needs and availability. Applicants are not required to commit to every location, but must be available to work a minimum of two shifts per week. Available shifts take place on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. Two shifts will typically provide approximately 8 to 15 hours of work per week.
We are looking for coaches with a strong background in sports, particularly soccer and basketball. Experience or interest in ball hockey, pickleball, and volleyball is also an asset. Coaches must be at least 17 years old and comfortable working with children of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.
Mandatory staff training will take place on Thursday, September 17, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Programs begin the weekend of September 19.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and age-appropriate sports sessions using the Junior Athletes curriculum.
- Teach fundamental skills, rules, techniques, and safe equipment use in a clear and encouraging way.
- Create a positive environment where children feel comfortable learning, trying new skills, and making mistakes.
- Serve as a positive role model by promoting teamwork, respect, confidence, and sportsmanship.
- Adapt activities and coaching methods for different ages, skill levels, needs, and abilities.
- Support the inclusion of children who may require additional assistance or modifications.
- Maintain active supervision and follow all safety procedures.
- Administer First Aid when required and complete incident reports promptly.
- Set up, organize, and properly store sports equipment.
- Communicate regularly with the Youth Sports Coordinator, Lead Coaches, and other team members.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled shifts, meetings, and training sessions.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- Previous experience coaching or working with children is strongly preferred.
- A background in soccer or basketball is preferred.
- Experience or interest in ball hockey, pickleball, volleyball, or other sports is an asset.
- Experience working with children with disabilities or additional support needs is a strong asset.
- French-speaking is a strong asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Patient, dependable, energetic, and comfortable leading groups.
- Able to work collaboratively as part of a coaching team.
- Available to work a minimum of two shifts per week. Shifts are available on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays and will typically total approximately 8 to 15 hours per week.
- Available to attend mandatory training on Thursday, September 17, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
- Available to begin work the weekend of September 19.

Positions may be available at the following Junior Athletes locations:

- Kanata
- Orléans
Applicants may indicate their preferred locations and availability. Coaches are not required to work at all four locations.
Required Certifications and Screening
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check issued within the past 24 months.
- Safe Sport Training Certificate.
- AODA Training Certificate.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively participate in sports and physical activities, including running, jumping, kneeling, and squatting, for extended periods.
- Ability to set up, move, and store sports equipment safely.
- Comfortable working in a loud, active, and fast-paced environment.
Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
