Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Accountant / Finance Manager to join our team in Calgary. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who is ready to take ownership of the full accounting function while partnering closely with operations and executive leadership.
In this role, you will be responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, cash management, financing, and financial controls across multiple companies. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, safeguarding company assets, supporting relationships with lenders and financial institutions, and delivering timely financial reporting that enables informed business decisions.

Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of accounting/financial management experience in the construction industry
- Experience using Quickbooks desktop, Quicbooks Online, Buildertrend, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Buildium
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting is required
- CGA or CPA designation would be an asset
- Strong knowledge of full cycle accounting and financial reporting standards
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and work independently
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skill
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Lead and oversee the accounting and finance functions for Klair Homes and its group of companies.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for each entity.
- Develop consolidated management financial reports across all companies.
- Analyze monthly financial results and provide budget-to-actual variance reporting.
- Prepare annual operating budgets and maintain rolling financial forecasts.
- Monitor profitability, financial performance, and key business metrics.
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.
- Monitor daily cash balances across all entities.
- Forecast future cash requirements and proactively identify funding needs.
- Coordinate cash transfers between companies.
- Manage weekly payment schedules and vendor disbursements.
- Support working capital management and optimize cash utilization.
Accounting Operations
- Manage the full-cycle accounting function, including:
- General ledger maintenance
- Accounts payable
- Accounts receivable
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Intercompany reconciliations
- Payroll review and support
- GST preparation and filings
- Fixed asset accounting
- Month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with accounting standards.
Construction & Development Accounting
- Manage accounting activities related to residential construction and land development, including:
- Job costing
- Project budgeting
- Cost-to-complete reporting
- Budget versus actual analysis
- Holdback tracking
- Construction draw support
- Development cost tracking
- Land inventory accounting
- Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
Property Management & Rental Portfolio Accounting
- Oversee financial reporting for the rental portfolio, including:
- Property-level financial statements
- Rent roll reconciliations
- Operating expense monitoring
- Capital expenditure tracking
- Mortgage administration
- Net Operating Income (NOI) reporting
- Portfolio cash flow analysis
Financing & Banking
- Prepare financial reporting packages for lenders and financial institutions.
- Support financing applications and refinancing initiatives.
- Coordinate construction financing draws.
- Maintain debt schedules and loan documentation.
- Monitor compliance with loan covenants.
- Track interest costs and financing expenses.
- Build and maintain strong banking and lender relationships.
- Assist with annual lender reporting requirements.
Financial Controls & Risk Management
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies and internal controls.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and approval processes.
- Review payment authorizations and monitor financial controls.
- Identify financial and operational risks.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and financial governance standards.
Management Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate monthly management reports, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Income Statement
- Statement of Cash Flows
- Budget vs. Actual Analysis
- Project Profitability Reports
- Cost-to-Complete Reports
- Debt Summary
- Accounts Receivable Aging
- Accounts Payable Aging
- Executive KPI Dashboard
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and file GST returns.
- Coordinate year-end activities with external accounting firms.
- Prepare audit and year-end working papers.
- Support corporate tax preparation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and optimize accounting systems, including integration with Buildertrend and other operational software.
- Identify opportunities to automate accounting and reporting processes.
- Improve workflows and financial reporting efficiency.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and accuracy of financial data.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational and financial performance.
