Position Description:
Our school is seeking a passionate, energetic, and collaborative Early Learning & Primary Support Teacher to join our Junior and Senior Kindergarten team. This position is ideally suited for a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), a newly graduated certified teacher, or an individual with equivalent early childhood credentials who thrives in a close-knit, student-centered learning environment.
In this role, you will work side-by-side with our lead classroom teachers to co-create an environment where our youngest learners feel safe, curious, and deeply valued. Utilizing a small-class model, you will provide vital instructional, emotional, and operational support, ensuring that our Kindergarten programming remains dynamic, differentiated, and inclusive of every child’s unique learning journey. This role offers a foundational opportunity for an educator looking to gain premium independent school experience and develop their teaching practice alongside experienced mentors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the lead teachers to facilitate engaging inquiry-driven learning opportunities.
- Lead small break-out groups, learning centers, and targeted activities to reinforce foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.
- Actively assist in implementing accommodations and multi-modal learning strategies to support diverse learner profiles, ensuring every student can access the curriculum successfully.
- Maintain a warm, structured, and positive classroom environment. Share in daily supervision duties, including recess, lunch, transitions, and field trips, ensuring student safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist the lead teacher in observing, tracking, and documenting student progress, milestone achievements, and social growth to help inform future lesson planning and family communication.
- Actively participate in the broader life of the school, including daily assemblies and school-wide community events.
- Provide occasional instructional or supervisory support within the Grades 1-2 classrooms as needed to ensure continuity of care and learning across the Primary division.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Graduation from a recognized post-secondary program in Early Childhood Education (ECE), a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, or an equivalent child development diploma/degree.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) or the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) is considered a strong asset, though equivalent experiences will be highly valued.
- A deep, genuine understanding of early childhood development and child-led inquiry.
- Dynamic Team Player: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate seamlessly with a teaching partner, take initiative, and adapt quickly to the shifting needs of a lively kindergarten classroom.
- A nurturing, patient demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for interacting with young children, professional colleagues, and parents alike.
- Up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, alongside a clean and current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
