What You'll Do
As a Payroll Specialist, you will lead weekly payroll and support key accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees, while supporting financial reporting, account reconciliations, job costing, and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting business operations, and ensuring compliance with payroll, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
Payroll
- Process weekly for unionized, non-unionized employees hourly and salaried employees
- Review and validate timesheets, job allocations, overtime, vacation accruals, and attendance records.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies with employees, supervisors, and management.
- Administer payroll, timekeeping, and attendance systems.
- Implement all position transfers, salary changes, and status changes received from the HR department.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation and collective agreements.
- Prepare and submit payroll remittances, source deductions, union remittances, ROEs, T4s, and other regulatory filings.
- Generate payroll reports and labour cost analysis for management.
- All other duties as required
Financial Reporting, Accounting & Compliance
- Perform reconciliations of payroll accounts, benefits, deductions.
- Support month-end, and year-end close processes, including financial and management reporting.
- Support audits, CRA inquiries, year-end filings, and ensure payroll and financial records remain accurate and audit-ready.
- Commitment to continuous improvements and learning related to payroll, reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
Technical and/or Behavioral Skills/Competencies:
- Successful completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of payroll and accounting experience.
- Experience processing payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees.
- Experience with Jonas software is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll regulations, source deductions, remittances, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team setting.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
