The Quality Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing support to all quality activities and initiatives at Johnson Electric Canada focusing on advanced analysis, problem-solving, and continuous improvement of production processes. This role supports production and engineering teams by applying quality engineering principles to ensure consistent performance and process reliability.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to OEE, process deviations, and product quality issues

Drive Design for Quality and risk mitigation initiatives

Apply JE Product Development System principles and lead robust PFMEA activities

Implement and oversee advanced digital quality systems, including real-time signal monitoring, automated data pipelines, and integrated SPC frameworks to enable predictive analytics and closed-loop process control

Design and execute capability studies (e.g., Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) to assess and improve part characteristics and process performance

Monitor and analyze process signals and quality metrics to identify trends, anomalies, and early indicators of process instability

Partner with Engineering and Operations to optimize product and process capability, stability, and compliance with specifications

Ensure compliance with QMS and EHS standards including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001

Lead and support internal audit activities, including IATF 16949 system audits, process audits, product audits, and layered process audits (LPA), including audit planning, execution, documentation of findings, and verification of corrective actions

Act as the quality interface with customers, supporting customer inquiries, investigations, and reporting of quality performance metrics

Support supplier quality activities, including incoming material evaluation, supplier performance monitoring, and supplier corrective actions

Develop and maintain Control Plans, inspection strategies, and quality standards aligned with process risks and customer requirements

Ensure measurement system capability (MSA) and adequacy of inspection methods to support process control and product validation
-
Provide hands-on support on the production floor for process troubleshooting, containment, and implementation of corrective actions

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Preference will be given to candidates with an Advanced Material Science background

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in powder metallurgy or related manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, material properties, powder processing, and coating technologies

Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and SPC methodologies.

Experience with advanced quality systems and data analytics, including real-time signal monitoring, predictive analytics, and data acquisition platforms

Strong experience developing and deploying Python-based data pipelines, including parsing, transforming, and loading production or process data into SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server)

Experience designing and maintaining automated, production-ready data workflows, including scheduling (e.g., Task Scheduler, cron) to support real-time monitoring and analytics systems

Certification in Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) Level 2 preferred or willingness to obtain

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Advanced degree in Engineering or related field

Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) Certification or willingness to obtain it

Experience with automotive or high-precision manufacturing environments

Experience with error-proofing techniques and quality system implementation
