Job Description: Public Area Attendant
Job Summary
The Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, presentation, and overall appearance of all guest-facing public spaces throughout the resort while delivering exceptional customer service.
This role helps ensure all resort public areas remain clean, sanitized, organized, and welcoming for guests, visitors, and team members at all times. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining indoor and outdoor public spaces, assisting with event and conference setup, and supporting overall housekeeping operations across the resort.
This position is an evening position (3:00pm-10:00pm), some weekend, and holiday work.
Accountability While Performing the Job
- Suggests efficient and cost-effective ways of performing tasks.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment or maintenance concerns in public areas and washrooms.
- Ensures all assigned duties are completed according to departmental productivity and quality standards.
- Maintains cleanliness and presentation standards throughout all resort public spaces.
Working Conditions
- Required to work both indoors and outdoors; weather and climate conditions will vary.
- Frequently required to work with a variety of cleaning products and equipment.
- May be required to operate a motorized vehicle to transport supplies when authorized.
Qualifications
Education
Essential
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred
- WHMIS Certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience & Knowledge
Preferred
- Previous cleaning, housekeeping, or custodial experience.
- Previous hotel or resort experience.
Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments within timelines.
Special Requirements
- Ability to operate motorized resort vehicles such as golf carts, vans, or utility vehicles in accordance with company policy.
- Note: Not all employees are required to operate company vehicles.
Physical Requirements
- Extended periods of standing and walking.
- Frequent bending, stretching, kneeling, and lifting.
- Repetitive arm and shoulder movements associated with cleaning tasks.
- Ability to lift and move supplies, tables, chairs, garbage bags, and linens up to 25 lbs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with company policies and departmental procedures.
- Follow all Health & Safety and fire safety policies and procedures.
- Attend training sessions and departmental meetings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of guest and company information.
- Maintain positive and professional working relationships with guests, team members, and management.
- Provide excellent customer service and professional communication at all times.
Public Area Attendant Responsibilities
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain all resort public areas including:
- Lobby and reception areas
- Hallways and stairwells
- Public washrooms
- Recreation and games areas
- Fitness and change rooms
- Conference and meeting rooms
- Guest lounges and common spaces
- Outdoor patios and seasonal seating areas
- Clean and sanitize public washrooms including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, dispensers, walls, and floors.
- Restock public washroom supplies including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and air fresheners.
- Empty garbage containers and sanitary disposal bins.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors throughout public areas.
- Dust and sanitize furniture, fixtures, railings, décor, and high-touch surfaces.
- Clean glass doors, mirrors, windows, and public glass fixtures.
- Polish brass, chrome, and metal fixtures.
- Restock reception refreshment stations including coffee, tea, cups, lids, napkins, and condiments.
- Assist with conference room setup and tear down when required.
- Support special events with room setup and cleaning assistance.
- Maintain outdoor guest areas including patio furniture and seasonal public spaces.
- Sanitize vending, beverage, and ice machines and report maintenance concerns.
- Wash and fold dining room linens and pool towels as assigned.
- Maintain overall resort cleanliness and presentation standards.
