About the Role
PigRun Solutions is looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware & DSP Engineer to join our engineering team in Ottawa.
This is a hands-on senior engineering position for someone who enjoys building real products, solving difficult technical problems, and working in a fast-moving product-development environment.
You will be responsible for continuing the development and improvement of our existing products while also playing a key role in the development of new products.
Our engineering environment is dynamic. Priorities can move quickly as we respond to product requirements, field feedback, customer needs, testing results, and new development opportunities. We are looking for someone who can adapt, take ownership, and contribute wherever their technical experience is needed.
Your primary focus will be embedded firmware and digital signal processing (DSP), but your responsibilities will not be limited to those areas.
What You Will Work With
Our products combine embedded systems, sensing, signal processing, wireless communication, and remote tracking technologies.

- ESP32 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/BLE devices

You will also gain significant exposure to remote tracking systems and pipeline inspection technology.
Responsibilities
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will:
- Develop, maintain, optimize, and debug embedded firmware for existing products.
- Design firmware architecture for new products and new product features.
- Develop and improve DSP algorithms used for sensor and signal analysis.
- Work with STM32, nRF, ESP32, cellular, satellite, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and related embedded technologies.
- Investigate complex firmware, hardware, communication, and signal-processing problems.
- Perform hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
- Work directly with prototype and production electronics.
- Perform soldering, board modifications, rework, and hardware-level troubleshooting when required.
- Participate in product architecture and technical planning.
- Review electrical schematics and provide input to hardware engineers.
- Participate in PCB and system-level design reviews.
- Conduct code reviews and help establish strong firmware-development practices.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Help junior engineers troubleshoot problems and improve their embedded development skills.
- Participate in testing, verification, field testing, and product validation.
- Investigate field issues and help translate real-world findings into firmware and product improvements.
- Work closely with hardware, software, mechanical, and product-development teams.
- Take ownership of engineering problems from investigation through implementation and validation.
- Contribute outside your primary area of responsibility when required by the needs of the company.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience.
- Strong professional experience developing embedded products.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++.
- Significant experience with STM32 microcontrollers.
- Experience developing firmware for real-world commercial or industrial products.
- Strong embedded debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working directly with electronic hardware and PCBs.
- Experience using laboratory equipment such as:
- Oscilloscopes
- Logic analyzers
- Multimeters
- Debuggers/programmers
- Power supplies and related test equipment
- Ability to solder, perform board-level modifications, and troubleshoot prototype electronics.
- Experience developing and debugging communication interfaces and embedded peripherals.
- Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) or signal-analysis applications.
- Understanding of real-time embedded systems and resource-constrained firmware development.
- Experience participating in the complete product-development lifecycle.
- Experience reviewing code and contributing to engineering architecture decisions.
- Ability to mentor and provide technical leadership to less experienced engineers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to independently investigate unfamiliar technical problems.

- Can effectively mentor junior engineers while still remaining highly hands-on technically.
- Communicates technical problems clearly and works effectively with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Location Requirement — Please Read Before Applying
This position is 100% in office in Ottawa, Ontario.
Candidates must already be located in Ottawa or the surrounding Ottawa area and be able to commute to our office regularly.
This is not a remote position, and remote or overseas applicants will not be considered.
We are specifically looking for an engineer who can work directly with our hardware, prototypes, test equipment, and engineering team in our Ottawa facility.
