We are searching for a Kitchen Lead to direct our Abbotsford Canteen Team. This is a fast-paced busy little kitchen, with fun opportunities for farm to table features. Each week our crew pumps tons of food sales from our approximately 400sqft Canteen (or Kitchen).
The ideal person for the position would have strong leadership experience in kitchens, find meaning in honest hard work, be willing to work with and develop a small team of cooks, prepared to work with mostly farm-fresh ingredients and suppliers, have a deep desire to make damn good food, and share menu development and creative direction of food with our Food and Farm program.
Wage is 45-50k plus an additional 15-20k in tips yearly
Accountable for: OPERATIONS
- Payroll (scheduling, training and systems to improve our wage-spend as it relates to our sales)
- Implementing and maintaining practices in the kitchen to keep our food safe and our kitchen areas and equipment clean and functional.
- Communicating with crew and fellow leaders on changes and operational updates
- Utilizing guides and checklists to ensure consistency and accuracy in our operations
Accountable for: TRAINING
- Assist in hiring process for new staff (ie. Interviews and looking at hiring needs)
- Training new crew and completing role outline expectations and feedback
- Ensuring our team in their roles are being given clear direction on their duties and the expectations for performance and accountability
- Rolling out features with training and expectations
Accountable for: PRODUCT CONTROL
- Keeping food cost in our operational budget
- Working hands-on with the team to improve the quality of food we’re serving
- Sharing in the creative development of our menu with the Food Program
More specifically, the following attributes/skills would be very valuable:
- Extensive food prep and service experience
- Management of scheduling and payroll budgets
- Ordering and cost of goods management
- Training and development of kitchen staff
- Clear communication
- Developing systems
