Day Porter – Commercial Building
York Heritage Properties is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and service-oriented Day Porter to join our team. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position supporting the cleanliness, upkeep, and day-to-day operations of our commercial properties.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, has a positive attitude, and enjoys helping create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our tenants and visitors.
Role Overview
The Day Porter will be responsible for general building cleaning, housekeeping, light maintenance, and assisting with the overall upkeep of assigned York Heritage Properties buildings.
You will work closely with the Property Manager and Maintenance Team, while also providing support at other York Heritage properties as needed.
Teamwork & Initiative
- Contributes to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Demonstrates initiative and takes pride in keeping the building clean and well maintained.
- Proactively identifies items that require attention and communicates them to the Property Manager.
- Works cooperatively with Property Managers, maintenance staff, contractors, and other team members.
- Is dependable, organized, and able to manage daily responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Tenant Service
- Provides a consistently high level of service to tenants and visitors.
- Assists with troubleshooting and problem-solving, making every effort to resolve situations in a helpful and positive way.
- Maintains a friendly and professional presence throughout the building.
Building Maintenance & Upkeep
- Maintains awareness of building and property deficiencies and reports concerns that may affect tenant comfort, cleanliness, or safety.
- Assists with maintaining common areas and ensuring the property is clean, safe, and presentable.
- Assists with providing access to trades and contractors as directed by the Property Manager.
- Reports maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Property Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily housekeeping duties including dusting, sweeping, mopping, garbage collection, and general cleaning.
- Clean and sanitize washrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, mirrors, and other fixtures.
- Empty waste, garbage, and recycling bins and transport waste and recyclable materials to designated areas.
- Clean common-area walls, partitions, doors, light switches, windowsills, and other surfaces.
- Clean and polish chrome and other polished metal surfaces.
- Dust, spot-clean, wash, disinfect, and polish furnishings, fixtures, and equipment as required.
- Operate cleaning and housekeeping equipment safely and appropriately.
- Assist with clearing snow and ice from applicable walkways during the winter season and apply salt as needed to help maintain safe conditions.
- Perform light maintenance and other general building duties as required.
- Complete other related duties as assigned by the Property Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous commercial cleaning, building maintenance, janitorial, or housekeeping experience is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and professional environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
- Positive attitude with a strong customer-service mindset.
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
- Able to identify and report maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with cleaning and building upkeep.
