About the Role
As an evening educator at The Learning Hive, you will provide individualized, one-to-one support to students from Kindergarten through Grade 9. Depending on your background and areas of strength, you may support students in reading, writing, mathematics, language arts, science, or English language learning.
Our tutoring programs are carefully planned to respond to each student’s individual needs. We use explicit, systematic, and evidence-based instruction while creating a warm and encouraging environment where students feel safe to take risks and experience success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, explicit, and individualized lessons based on each student’s needs and learning profile
- Use structured literacy, evidence-based mathematics instruction, or effective English language teaching practices
- Monitor student progress, maintain clear lesson notes, and adjust instruction as needed
- Build positive, supportive relationships with students
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families and The Learning Hive leadership team
- Collaborate with other educators to maintain consistent, high-quality programming
- Complete lesson preparation and required documentation in a timely manner
What We’re Looking For
- A background in education, child development, psychology, social work, or a related field
- Experience working with children or adolescents from Kindergarten through Grade 9
- Knowledge of structured literacy, English language learning, and/or evidence-based mathematics instruction, or a strong willingness to learn
- OCT certification, ECE training, Orton-Gillingham training, or other relevant qualifications are considered assets, but are not required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Dependability, professionalism, warmth, and a growth mindset
- The ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Schedule and Location
- Part-time weekday evening hours, primarily after school
- Opportunities may range from one to several evenings per week
- Most sessions take place at our education centre in Woodstock, with some opportunities available at local partner schools or online
