Job Summary
Sanscon Construction is seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead and oversee the company’s health and safety program across our construction operations. This position will be responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with applicable Ontario legislation and industry standards, and providing hands-on support to project management and site teams.
The successful candidate will split their time between the office and regular visits to active construction sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The ideal candidate will have strong construction industry experience, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams while maintaining a firm commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
The candidate must hold at least one of the following recognized health and safety designations/certifications: NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, or GSC.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, implement, and maintain Sanscon’s corporate health and safety program and policies.
- Ensure company operations comply with COR, IHSA requirements, ISO 45001.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits at active construction projects and document findings.
- Monitor site compliance with company policies, project-specific health and safety plans, and legislative requirements.
- Develop, review, and maintain Health & Safety Plans, Site-Specific Safety Plans, procedures, forms, and related documentation.
- Support the preparation, maintenance, and successful completion of COR audits and ISO 45001 audits, where applicable.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns; complete reports and conduct root cause analysis.
- Develop and monitor corrective and preventative actions resulting from incidents, inspections, audits, and investigations.
- Deliver and coordinate health and safety training, orientations, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
- Ensure workers and subcontractors have the required training, certifications, and documentation prior to performing work.
- Maintain and monitor records related to training, inspections, incidents, corrective actions, and other safety documentation.
- Assist project teams with hazard assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and safe work procedures.
- Participate in project start-up meetings, pre-construction meetings, safety meetings, and site meetings as required.
- Track safety performance metrics and prepare regular reports for senior management.
- Assist with responding to Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) inspections, orders, and inquiries.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization and encourage continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Mandatory: One of the following designations/certifications:
- NCSO – National Construction Safety Officer
- CRSP – Canadian Registered Safety Professional
- CHSC – Certified Health & Safety Consultant
- GSC – Gold Seal Certification
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in occupational health and safety.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Strong knowledge of IHSA requirements and construction health and safety practices.
- Experience developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Experience with COR certification/auditing and/or ISO 45001 is considered a strong asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with both management and field personnel.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between active construction sites throughout the GTA.

- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Safety, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
- Occupational Health & Safety: 3 years (required)
- Construction industry: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (required)
- NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, or GSC designation/certification (required)
Pay: $85,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
