Senior CPA / Compilation Accountant

Sterling Financial Accounting Services is a boutique accounting and financial advisory firm whose collaborative team works remotely and in person, and we are looking for an experienced senior accountant to join us.
This role is ideal for an experienced public practice accountant who enjoys working independently, takes ownership of compilation engagements, mentors junior team members, and is committed to providing exceptional client service. While this role is focused on supporting our growing practice, there may be future opportunities for increased responsibility and career growth for the right individual.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- CPA, CA designation, or equivalent senior-level experience in a Canadian public accounting practice.
- Experience managing client relationships and taking ownership of files from bookkeeping review through to year-end financial statements and tax compliance will be viewed favorably.
- Five to 7 of recent experience in a Canadian public accounting practice.
- Extensive experience independently preparing Compilation Engagement Reports in accordance with Canadian CPA standards.
- The ability to independently review work prepared by junior staff and provide guidance and coaching.
- A solid understanding of business, accounting, management, and practice development principles.
- Strong knowledge of Profile Tax, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, and the ability to assist clients and staff in resolving bookkeeping and accounting issues.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication, listening, and professional writing skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work efficiently in a paperless environment while collaborating remotely with team members.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and conceptual problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
- Accountability, reliability, and consistency while working remotely, including maintaining regular working hours and communication with the team.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Independently preparing Compilation Engagement Reports in accordance with Canadian CPA standards.
- Reviewing compilation files and work prepared by junior staff.
- Preparing and reviewing corporate and personal income tax returns, along with other tax compliance filings.
- Reviewing T4, T5, and other year-end compliance reporting.
- Preparing or reviewing final (date of death) and T3 trust returns would be considered an asset.
- Responding to client questions and providing practical accounting and tax guidance.
- Identifying technical issues and raising them for discussion where appropriate.
- Monitoring the progress of engagements and communicating timelines with the team.
- Reviewing bank reconciliations and other supporting working papers.
- Assisting clients with bookkeeping issues, accounting software, and accounting transactions.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
- Contributing ideas and approaches that improve efficiency, processes, and client service.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members.

A criminal record check and professional references will be required. Technical proficiency may be assessed during the interview process.
Although working hours are flexible and can be mutually agreed upon, the successful candidate must initially be available to start work between 6:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
