NOVUS Industrial Atlantic Inc. is recruiting an experienced Drilling Superintendent for an upcoming contract opportunity supporting a major offshore energy operator in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Position Overview
Reporting to the client's Wells Operations Manager, the successful candidate will provide operational leadership for offshore drilling activities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams and contractors while coordinating drilling, completions, workover, and well intervention activities to safely deliver operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the safe and efficient execution of offshore drilling operations.
- Lead drilling, completions, workover, and well intervention activities.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and service providers to achieve operational objectives.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Support the selection, coordination, and performance management of contractors and service providers while ensuring compliance with client standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate activities with engineering, marine, HSE, supply chain, production, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in emergency response planning, preparedness, and incident management activities.
- Deliver operational objectives while maintaining focus on safety, quality, schedule, budget, and overall operational performance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
- Minimum 15 years' experience in drilling, completions, workover and well intervention operations.
- Minimum 3 years of offshore drilling and completions experience.
- Significant experience supporting harsh-environment, mid-water MODU operations.
- Strong leadership and contractor management experience.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of drilling engineering principles, offshore well operations, and geophysical, geological, and reservoir engineering considerations.
- Experience working within major operator management systems and Operational Excellence frameworks.
- Knowledge of SIMOPS, emergency response, and applicable offshore regulatory requirements.
- Strong computer proficiency and technical reporting skills.
- CAPP regulatory training or the ability to obtain required client-specific regulatory training.
- Previous experience supporting offshore drilling campaigns in Atlantic Canada, including MODU intake scopes, would be considered an asset.
Assignment Details
- Contract opportunity expected to be for approximately one year; however, the duration may be shorter or extended depending on operational requirements.
- Anticipated commencement in August 2026.
- Initial work is expected to include a combination of office-based support in St. John's and travel to an offshore drilling unit in Norway. Following the commencement of drilling operations, the role is expected to transition to a 28/28 rotational assignment based out of St. John's, anticipated in early 2027.
- While on rotation, the successful candidate is expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call schedule and remain available outside of normal working hours to respond to operational issues and support critical decision-making. Frequent travel to offshore drilling units will be required.
