The Commercial Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for sourcing, estimating, securing, and delivering profitable commercial work through effective planning and execution from bid to completion. “Commercial” refers to non-residential projects, including retail, industrial, multi-family, institutional, municipal, agricultural, parkade repairs, and restoration-related work.
- Identifying commercial opportunities through bidding platforms, RFPs, industry relationships, referrals, and strategic networking
- Assisting in the development and growth of Shield’s Commercial Division, including helping establish processes, systems, subcontractor relationships, crews, and operational resources required to support long-term growth
- Supporting the ongoing organization, coordination, and management of commercial operations and resources as the division evolves
- Reviewing project scopes, engineering drawings, specifications, and tender requirements to ensure alignment with Shield’s capabilities
- Obtaining accurate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and rental providers
- Evaluating project profitability, risk, feasibility, structural considerations, and operational requirements prior to submission
- Managing and overseeing assigned commercial projects from award to completion, including projects sourced or sold by other Shield team members
- Acting as Project Manager for commercial projects assigned by Shield and ensuring projects are completed in accordance with company standards, budgets, timelines, communication expectations, safety requirements, and profitability goals
- The employee is expected to actively participate in and support the execution of all assigned projects, including hands-on involvement where required.
- This role includes overseeing projects in the field, directing and supporting crew members, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- The employee is responsible for managing projects from award through completion, including field execution, communication, and overall outcomes.
- The employee will work alongside experienced team members to develop technical knowledge, strengthen field expertise, and ensure alignment between estimating and execution.
- The employee is expected to continuously build the skills required to independently manage and deliver projects. Shield will provide guidance, support, and training as needed to support this development.
- Previous experience in commercial estimating, project management, construction sales, or related commercial construction roles
- Strong knowledge of foundations, waterproofing systems, structural concrete repair, parkade restoration, and building envelope systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, structural details, tender packages, and scopes of work
- Strong understanding of structural loading, temporary shoring requirements, construction sequencing, and safe work practices
- Experience managing commercial projects, schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and client communication
- Understanding of commercial construction practices, project coordination, and job costing
- Sales experience with strong customer service, networking, relationship-building, and communication skills
- Strong organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Self-motivated, driven, and growth-oriented with a strong understanding of accountability, urgency, timelines, and deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail
- Understanding that long-term growth, compensation opportunities, and increased responsibility are directly tied to the successful growth of Shield’s Commercial Division
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Strong typing, documentation, and computer skills
- Ability to learn and utilize company software platforms including Company Cam and SharePoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract
- Ability to attend job sites and work in active construction environments as required
- Experience in foundation repair, waterproofing, restoration, structural repair, or commercial concrete industries
- Existing industry relationships and commercial network connections
- Experience with RFPs, tendering platforms, and commercial bidding processes
- Safety certifications including CSTS, First Aid, Fall Protection, or related construction safety training
- Base Salary: $80,000–100,000 annually, paid monthly on or before the 28th
- Applicable tax withholdings will be deducted in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements
- Commission:
- 2% of net profit on the first $2,000,000 of annual sales
- 1% of net profit on annual sales exceeding $2,000,000
Vacation pay is paid monthly at 4% of gross earnings (including salary and commission). Time off requires approval, and vacation during the busy season (April–October) is limited.
