Jakes Construction is looking for a reliable and hardworking Heavy Civil Construction Labourer to join our civil construction team.
This position is well suited for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is physically capable, safety-conscious, and able to work well as part of a crew. The successful candidate will assist with general civil construction labour, site preparation, material handling, hand and power tool use, grading, backfilling, compacting, and supporting pipelayers, grademen, equipment operators, and other crew members as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform general civil construction labour as directed by the Supervisor.
- Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Prepare worksites by digging, shoveling, sweeping, raking, grading, backfilling, compacting, and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Assist with trenching, curb and sidewalk prep, pipe laying, tight blading, final grading, and work with dirt and aggregate materials.
- Operate small hand and power tools, including tools used for cutting asphalt and concrete.
- Tend pumps, compressors, generators, and other small equipment as required.
- Assist equipment operators by spotting, signalling, and supporting safe movement of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Assist with traffic control and maintaining safe work zones as required.
- Support pipelayers, grademen, trades, and other crew members as directed.
- Communicate material, supply, and equipment needs to the Supervisor.
- Attend toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Follow all company and worksite safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous construction experience is preferred.
- Experience working around heavy equipment and using hand/power tools is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation required.
- Basic understanding of construction safety practices.
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labour for extended periods.
- Punctual, reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work well independently or as part of a team.

Pay: $20.00-$26.00 per hour
