Reporting to the Director, Equitable Learning, Health & Wellness, the Counsellor will work within the multidisciplinary team to provide students with mental health support and counselling services to address barriers to academic success while at Mohawk College.
This position is scheduled to work in-person Monday–Friday from 8:30 am–4:30 pm.
What you’ll be doing:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Provide direct service, both in-person and virtually, to students experiencing a wide range of personal issues and complex mental health issues.

Walk-in, single session, and ongoing appointments utilizing evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions offered both virtually and in-person.

Contribute to other services including campus consultations, workshops and outreach programming to enhance student and campus life.

Maintain timely clinical records in accordance with college and professional standards.

Actively participate, as part of a multidisciplinary Wellness Team, to ensure best practices and student safety.

May include supervision of Master’s level clinical interns and/or college placement students.

Demonstrates cultural humility and ongoing self-reflection, actively integrating awareness, knowledge and skills to navigate the complex and intersecting factors that shape the lives of our diverse student population including values, cultural identities, communication styles, belief systems, and lived experiences.

Engage campus and community-based supports to meet the needs of our student population.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Master’s level degree in a counselling related professional discipline (Social Work, Counselling, Psychology) that includes a supervised clinical internship(s).

Must have and maintain the right to independently practice the controlled act of Psychotherapy in Ontario. Registration with one of the following is required: Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), or equivalent professional college regulating the controlled act of psychotherapy.

A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience providing counselling and/or psychotherapy.

Knowledge and experience in utilizing a broad range of evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions is required.

Knowledge of the risks and complexity of issues impacting emerging adult populations.

Demonstrated ability in crisis intervention.

Demonstrated self-awareness, knowledge, skills and attitudes are essential for effective communication, relationship-building, educating, and supervising within a diverse setting is required.

Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to changing demands.

Proficiency in using technology to compliment clinical care and experience using an EMR/CRM platform strongly required.

Experience with counselling in the post-secondary environment is considered an asset.

Counsellor may be required to travel to all campuses including those in partnership with Mohawk.

The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
