Short Order / Deli Cook (Daytime Kitchen Role) – Tsawwassen, BC
NEWMANS FINE FOODS is hiring a skilled and reliable Short Order / Cook to join our kitchen team in South Delta.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cook, deli professional, or culinary graduate looking for a stable, team-focused kitchen role with primarily daytime hours in a fast-paced gourmet food environment.
About the Role
You’ll play a key part in preparing fresh, high-quality grab-and-go meals, sandwiches, soups, platters, and specialty deli items while delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining high food safety standards.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in quality, works efficiently under pressure, and enjoys being part of a collaborative kitchen team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and execute daily food offerings including:
- Soups
- Sandwiches
- Ready-to-go meals
- Deli items
- Catering platters
- Seasonal specials
- Assist customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner
- Maintain attractive and fully stocked retail displays
- Rotate products and monitor freshness, quality, and food safety standards
- Help with inventory management, ordering, and receiving deliveries
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment including slicers, ovens, and prep equipment
- Contribute ideas for new menu items and seasonal features
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused workspace
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a deli, café, sandwich shop, catering kitchen, or commercial kitchen
- Culinary training or equivalent hands-on kitchen experience
- Strong understanding of food preparation, organization, and kitchen workflow
- Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and attention to detail
- Positive attitude and strong communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable in a customer-facing environment
- Food Safe Level 1 is an asset (training available for the right candidate)
Schedule & Work Environment
- Flexible daytime and early evening shifts
- Store operating hours: 7:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- Weekday and weekend availability required
- Great fit for cooks seeking more balanced hours outside of late-night restaurant service
