POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Child & Youth Program Manager within the Child and Family Services (CFS) department, the Child & Youth Program Coordinator will support children and youth by providing culturally appropriate safe programming through our Youth Centre. Implementation of groups, activities, and special events to support wellness within our community.
This is a full-time position in which the hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8:30am-4:30pm. The successful candidate will be required to have flexibility for evening work for groups and special events. Field trips and outdoor education may be a part of the scheduled activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build trusting, supporting relationships with children, youth, and families in community
- Supervise children and youth at the Youth Centre drop-in programs, which includes delivering services that promote wellness, identity, and resilience
- Implement educational, recreational, and skill building programs for children and youth to foster growth and wellness, for spring break, summer camps, and special events
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants
- Work with partnering agencies and departments to have a collaborative approach to programming that will enhance recreational and educational activities
- Adheres to program-specific schedules for cleaning, inventory of supplies, and other associated maintenance tasks
- Transports children and youth to and from programming, out-trips, and events
- Participates in Youth Council monthly meetings when required
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post secondary diploma in Child & Youth Care, or Community Family and Child Studies, Indigenous Family Support Certificate or Early Childhood Education
- Minimum 2 years’ related experience working with Child and Youth Programs
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment
- Knowledge of the Child, Family, and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and reporting requirements
- Experience working with all ages of children 6 to 19 years of age
- Experience implementing culturally safe, recreational and skill building programming for children and youth to foster growth and wellness
- Demonstrates ability to maintain an effective work relationship with families, colleagues, service providers, and regulatory program advisors
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work closely with other team members
- Knowledge and understanding of Songhees Nation culture, heritage, and spirituality as well as the unique circumstances faced by Songhees students
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
Pay: $32.00 per hour
