We are seeking dedicated and passionate Early Childhood professionals to join our team as Level 1 Early Childhood Educator/On-call Educator .
All team members share a core responsibility: creating a nurturing, engaging, and educational environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn. Depending on certification level and role, responsibilities may include direct classroom teaching, program planning, team leadership, and centre-wide management.
Skills in English are highly valued, especially for programs serving diverse communities. Successful candidates will support children’s developmental milestones and help maintain a positive, collaborative learning atmosphere.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist educators with the implementation of daily routines and planned activities.
- Support the supervision of children to ensure their safety, well-being, and positive interactions.
- Help prepare, organize, and clean up learning materials, classroom spaces, and activity areas.
- Assist children with transitions throughout the day, including arrival, departure, outdoor play, meals, and rest periods.
- Encourage children's independence, social development, and positive behavior through respectful interactions.
- Support educators during indoor and outdoor play by engaging with children in developmentally appropriate activities.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom environment following health and safety guidelines.
- Assist with snack and meal preparation, serving, and cleanup as directed.
- Follow all licensing regulations, organizational policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and visitors.
- Report any concerns regarding children's health, safety, or well-being to the supervising educator immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program operations.
- Be flexible and willing to work in different classrooms or age groups based on operational needs.
- Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to support the team throughout the shift.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Supervisor, or Lead Educator to support the daily operation of the program.
Child Care & Education (All Levels and Roles)
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with early childhood education standards and centre philosophy.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and curiosity.
- Lead activities that promote:
- Social-emotional development (sharing, cooperation, emotional regulation)
- Language and literacy (stories, songs, communication skills)
- Numeracy (counting, basic math concepts)
- Fine and gross motor skills (arts, outdoor play, movement)
- Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviors on an ongoing basis and share relevant information with parents and the team.
- Support children with special needs or disabilities by adapting activities, materials, and routines under guidance from leadership and/or specialists.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with children, families, and colleagues to promote a positive, collaborative environment.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families by providing regular updates and responding to questions or concerns.
Documentation, Records & Technology
- Maintain accurate records of children’s development, attendance, incidents, and classroom activities using computer systems and educational software.
- Follow centre procedures for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Classroom & Centre Management
- Support daily routines, including arrivals, departures, mealtimes, naps, outdoor play, and transitions.
- Implement positive behavior guidance strategies consistent with centre policies and licensing regulations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations at all times.
- Monitor the classroom and indoor/outdoor environments for safety and cleanliness; report or address hazards promptly.
Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Child Care Assistant (Level 1) certification or eligibility to obtain certification is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
- Knowledge of child development and early learning principles is an asset.
- Familiarity with applicable licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and childcare best practices is an asset.
Experience
- Previous experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, school, camp, or similar setting is an asset but not required.
- Experience supporting educators or working collaboratively as part of a team is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible, dependable, and organized.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and adapt to the needs of the program.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time, small groups, and classroom routines.
Preferred / Asset Qualifications (For All Levels & Roles)
- English required.
- Experience working with children with disabilities or special needs.
- Training in first aid/CPR, child guidance, inclusive practices, or health & safety.

Pay: $15.00-$16.00 per hour
Expected Hours of Work
This is a casual, on-call position with no guarantee of minimum hours.
- Hours are scheduled based on operational needs, staff absences, program requirements, and enrollment.
- Shifts may be offered on short notice and may vary in length.
- Staff are expected to communicate their availability and respond to shift requests in a timely manner.
- Flexibility to work mornings, afternoons, full-day shifts, and split shifts is considered an asset.
- Availability to work at multiple program locations, if applicable, may be required.
- While there is no guaranteed number of hours, employees who demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and strong performance may be offered additional shifts as they become available.
