Role Description:
Reporting to the SVP, Property Accounting and Enterprise Finance Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the property accounting team, overseeing commercial and self-storage assets, based in the Vancouver office.
Responsibilities:
Liaising with property site staff, leasing staff, management, and clients to ensure responsive service from the property accounting team
Planning timing and accurate completion of all annual, quarterly, and monthly activities and cycles, including property month ends, annual property budgets, annual tenant operating cost adjustments, and property reporting
Preparation and Maintenance of all procedural documentation relating to property accounting
Manage staff workloads to ensure fairness, and responsiveness to internal and external clients
Providing guidance and direction to the property accounting team; and being responsible for the team’s continuous improvement of departmental processes/procedures
Ensuring existing and new staff members receive training for systems and processes/procedures
Administering performance evaluations; ensuring the Property Accounting team staff continue to develop and utilize new skills
Assisting in staff motivation, celebration and maintaining a positive work environment
Identifying and analyzing issues; taking decisive action when required
Take on special projects as delegated including process improvements and senior management requests
Other duties, as required.
Education and Qualifications:
Professional accounting designation
Minimum of 5 to 15 years of progressive real estate accounting experience, including supervision of staff.
Solid understanding of accounting principles
Strong negotiating skills
Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
Relationship Skills – Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships; ability to develop leadership in others; team player
Organizational/Multi-Tasking – ability to allocate one’s time effectively, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities; ability to prioritize workload; ability to work at a detailed level; willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change
Decision Making Skills – Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems; ability to take decisive action; ability to resolve conflict
Computer Skills – Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of Yardi is an asset
The annualized base salary range for this position is between $140,000-$144,000.
