Universal Panel Corp is looking for a Designer experienced in SEMA design software to create accurate models and drawings for light wood framed prefabricated wall/floor panels. In this role you will support residential and multi-family projects by producing manufacturing-ready designs that integrate smoothly into production and site installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed models and drawings of light wood framed prefabricated wall/floor panels in SEMA design software.
- Generate manufacturing-ready files and highly detailed shop drawings for production, material procurement, and on-site assembly.
- Review architectural and structural plans to ensure wall panel designs are fully coordinated and constructible.
- Size and detail wall components (studs, plates, headers, openings, sheathing, and connections) within SEMA.
- Maintain consistent modelling standards and content libraries to support efficient panel production.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to resolve design coordination issues before fabrication.
- Support the transfer of SEMA models into downstream manufacturing workflows.
- Keep project files organized and provide technical support to colleagues and partners as needed.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- 2+ years of design experience in light wood framed or prefabricated construction.
- Hands-on experience with SEMA design software for prefabricated wall/floor panels is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings accurately.
- Solid understanding of light wood framing principles, panelized construction, and the Ontario Building Code.
- Experience preparing fabrication-ready documentation and shop drawings.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear communication and practical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with standard office software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
