About the Client:
We're seeking a dedicated caregiver for a gentleman living independently who has Parkinson's disease and is currently undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer. He experiences mobility challenges, visual and hearing impairments, occasional hallucinations related to his condition, and requires assistance with incontinence care. His family lives out of province (Calgary and Denver) and needs reliable, consistent support to bridge the gap until assisted living arrangements can be finalized. He currently receives funded home care services that have proven unreliable, with frequent no-shows and inconsistent medication administration.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with personal care including bathing, dressing, and incontinence care (depends changes)
- Provide medication reminders and ensure proper administration using his automatic dispenser
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding as needed
- Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and maintain a safe living environment (disposing of spoiled food, general tidying)
- Accompany client to medical appointments via taxi or Uber
- Provide mobility support for someone who uses a walker or wheelchair
- Offer cognitive support through gentle prompts and redirection during episodes of confusion
- Assist with technology (TV remote, phone) and daily living tasks
- Provide companionship through conversation, games, or crosswords
- Communicate regularly with family members regarding his condition and care needs
What We're Looking For:
- Certified PSW with experience supporting clients with Parkinson's disease
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to provide reassurance during confusion or hallucinations
- Proactive caregiver who takes initiative without needing constant direction
- Strong communication skills to keep family informed
- Reliable and punctual - consistency is critical for this client
- Experience with mobility aids, personal care, and medication management
- Comfortable working with clients who have visual and hearing impairments
- Valid driver's license for appointment accompaniment
- English speaking
Schedule:
Flexible schedule needed across Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Two-hour visits preferred to allow adequate time for personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks. The client already has private support on Wednesdays and Sundays, and funded services provide additional coverage (though unreliable). Consistency with the same caregiver is essential for building trust and routine.
