Job purpose
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, handling, and preparing electronic components and materials for manufacturing. This role supports production efficiency through accurate inventory control, kitting, and component preparation activities. The position works under direct supervision and performs a variety of warehouse and production support tasks.
Duties and responsibilities
Component Preparation
- Prepare electronic components for production, including lead forming, cutting, taping, labeling, and packaging according to specifications
- Verify component part numbers, quantities, and specifications against work orders, bills of materials (BOMs), and drawings
- Ensure components are properly staged, organized, and ready for manufacturing use
- Maintain component traceability and proper identification throughout the preparation process
- Handle sensitive electronic components using ESD-safe practices
- Identify and report component discrepancies, shortages, or quality concerns
Kitting & Production Support
- Pick and prepare kits for the manufacturing floor according to production schedules
- Ensure kits are complete, accurate, and delivered on time
- Return unused components to stock and maintain proper inventory levels
- Maintain computerized inventory records, take physical count periodically, and check against inventory control totals using computer
- Package circuit boards and mechanical assemblies in preparation for shipment to customers
- Picking kits for the manufacturing floor
- Prepare and maintain SMT Feeder Bank and offline set up.
Inventory Control & Storage
- Performing cycle counts and stock checks as required
- Reconciling shortages and issues in conjunction with Program Managers and Purchasing team
- Counting residual stock and restocking in correct locations as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Requires flexibility and understanding that all staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Company
Qualifications
High school diploma is an asset- Recent stockroom or material handling experience, preferably in an electronics manufacturing environment
- Experience with component preparation is strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and principles (FIFO, cycle counts, KANBAN) is and asset
- Basic computer skills and experience with inventory software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Team-oriented with the ability to support production staff
Working conditions
Shift work may include days or evenings- Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required
- Exposure to moving equipment, machinery, and warehouse traffic
- Moderate exposure to noise, machinery, and chemicals
Physical requirements
Manual dexterity required for handling small electronic components- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Repetitive lifting, carrying, and handling of materials
