About the Role
Royale Floors & Surfaces is looking for a motivated Project Coordinator to join our commercial construction team in Halifax.
This position is designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in construction project management. You will work directly with experienced Project Managers and progressively take on greater responsibility for the planning, coordination and financial management of commercial construction projects.
For the right candidate, our goal is to develop this position toward a Project Manager role within approximately 12–24 months, based on performance, demonstrated capability and business needs.
You do not need flooring experience. We can teach the flooring side of the business. Previous experience in construction, general contracting, project coordination or a related environment would be considered an asset.
What You'll Do
Working closely with our Project Managers, field teams, customers and suppliers, you will support commercial construction projects from award through completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Assist Project Managers with the planning and coordination of commercial construction projects
· Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts and project scope
· Maintain project files, documentation and close-out records
· Track project schedules, milestones and outstanding items
· Coordinate material orders, deliveries and site requirements
· Communicate with general contractors, site supervisors, suppliers and internal teams
· Assist with project takeoffs, pricing and estimating as required
· Obtain and coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing
· Assist with the preparation, pricing and tracking of change orders
· Track project costs, commitments and budget information
· Assist with progress billings and supporting documentation
· Participate in project meetings and follow up on assigned action items
· Coordinate RFIs, submittals and other project documentation where applicable
· Help identify scheduling, material and site issues before they affect project delivery
· Support project safety documentation and quality-control requirements
· Assist with project close-out, deficiencies and final documentation
· Support improvements to project-management processes, systems and reporting
As you develop in the role, you will be given increasing responsibility for customer communication, scheduling, cost control, change management and ultimately the management of your own projects.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is organized, accountable and interested in developing into a Project Manager, rather than someone who simply wants to remain in an administrative coordination role.
The ideal candidate will have:
· College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a 1- to 2-year program, or equivalent experience
· Strong organizational and time-management skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
· Strong attention to detail and follow-through
· Good analytical and problem-solving skills
· Confidence working with customers, suppliers, field personnel and other construction professionals
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
· A willingness to learn the financial, operational and technical aspects of construction project management
· A collaborative and team-oriented approach
· A desire to take on increasing responsibility and advance into project management
Experience in the construction industry would be considered an asset, including experience with a general contractor, subcontractor, construction supplier or related business.
Experience specifically in the flooring industry is not required.
Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, estimating, scheduling, RFIs, change orders or project-management software would be considered an asset.
Career Development
Far from a purely administrative Project Coordinator position, our objective is to develop the successful candidate into someone capable of independently managing commercial construction projects.
As your experience and capabilities develop, you will gain exposure to:
· Project budgeting and cost control
· Estimating and tendering
· Contract and scope review
· Scheduling and resource planning
· Change-order management
· Progress billing and project financial reporting
· Customer and general contractor relationships
· Material procurement and logistics
· Field coordination
· Project risk management
· Managing projects from award through completion
A successful Project Coordinator who demonstrates the ability to manage these responsibilities may progress into a Project Manager position, with corresponding increases in responsibility and compensation.
