IT Assistant
Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community
Part-Time — Approximately 24 Hours per Week
$24.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience
Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community is looking for a hands-on, technically curious IT Assistant to provide day-to-day technology support across our hospitality, golf, restaurant, hotel, real-estate, and other business operations.
This is not a traditional desk-only help-desk position.
You may spend part of your day troubleshooting a computer, Microsoft 365, a printer, or a point-of-sale system, and another part installing a television, tracing a network cable, troubleshooting guest Wi-Fi, setting up audio equipment for an event, or travelling to another Crown Isle location to solve a problem.
The successful candidate will work directly with our IT Manager and receive hands-on mentoring across a wide range of technologies.
An experienced IT support candidate would be ideal, but we are also willing to train and develop someone who has strong technical aptitude, good troubleshooting instincts, and a genuine interest in building a career in IT.
What You’ll Do
Responsibilities will include:
· Provide day-to-day computer and technical support to Crown Isle employees.
· Install, configure, maintain, and replace Windows computers and peripherals.
· Assist with Microsoft 365 user administration, email, licensing, and troubleshooting.
· Support point-of-sale and hospitality systems including Lightspeed, Silverware, Maestro, Fetch, 7shifts, OpenTable, SensorSuite, and related hardware.
· Configure and troubleshoot phones, extensions, voicemail, and telecommunications equipment.
· Provision and support company cellular phones and mobile devices.
· Install and troubleshoot printers, copiers, receipt printers, kitchen printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
· Assist with wired and wireless networking and troubleshoot guest Wi-Fi.
· Install, troubleshoot, replace, and mount televisions, displays, and digital-signage equipment.
· Assist with surveillance and access-control systems.
· Support conference-room audio-visual equipment.
· Help set up and operate sound systems and other technology for Crown Isle events.
· Maintain and troubleshoot commercial background-music systems.
· Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot network, telephone, audio, and other low-voltage cabling.
· Monitor UPS equipment, backups, and basic system health.
· Assist with network-connected sensors, controllers, IoT devices, and other operational technology.
· Perform basic electrical and electronic troubleshooting associated with technology equipment.
· Maintain technology inventory, documentation, and equipment records.
· Work with technology vendors and service providers when required.
· Assist the IT Manager with larger installations, upgrades, projects, and complex troubleshooting.
Complex issues involving servers, advanced networking, cybersecurity, databases, integrations, and other senior-level systems will be escalated to the IT Manager.
What We’re Looking For
You do not need to know every system we use on your first day.
More important is that you are curious, practical, comfortable learning unfamiliar technology, and able to troubleshoot problems logically.
Required
· Strong general computer and technology skills.
· Comfortable working with Windows computers, hardware, software, and peripherals.
· Basic understanding of networking concepts such as IP addresses, Wi-Fi, DHCP, switches, and network connectivity.
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
· Willingness to learn unfamiliar systems and technologies.
· Comfortable performing hands-on equipment installation, repair, and cabling.
· Able to communicate patiently and effectively with non-technical users.
· Reliable, organized, and able to work independently once trained.
· Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel between Crown Isle and associated locations.
· Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg) independently.
· Already able to work onsite in the Comox Valley. No support will be given for relocation.
Experience That Would Be an Asset
Experience with any of the following would be helpful, but is not required:
· IT support or help-desk work.
· Microsoft 365.
· Active Directory or Windows Server.
· Computer networking and Wi-Fi.
· Point-of-sale and or hospitality systems.
· Surveillance systems.
· Audio-visual equipment and sound systems.
· Printers and multifunction devices.
· Cellular-device administration.
· Network or low-voltage cabling.
· Electronics troubleshooting.
· Backup systems.
· SQL, scripting, or programming of any flavor.
· IoT or building-control systems.
Formal IT education or certifications are welcome but are not required if you can demonstrate strong technical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
A Broad IT Learning Opportunity
This position provides exposure to technology that is often divided among several different IT roles.
Working directly with the IT Manager, you will have opportunities to develop skills in Microsoft 365, networking, Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, cybersecurity, backups, point-of-sale systems, telecommunications, surveillance, audio-visual systems, operational technology, electronics troubleshooting, and technical project work.
As your experience and abilities grow, you will be encouraged to take ownership of increasingly complex systems and responsibilities.
Work Locations
This position supports Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community as well as other Crown Isle operations and properties, including locations in the Comox Valley and Qualicum Beach.
Regular travel between supported locations is part of the job. A vehicle will be provided between sites, but not overnight.
Work may take place in offices, hotels, restaurants, golf facilities, equipment rooms, outdoor areas, construction environments, and event spaces.
Hours
· Part-time.
· Approximately 24 hours per week.
· Regular schedule based on operational requirements.
· Occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours work may be required for urgent operational issues, major events, installations, or planned maintenance.
· The position is not intended to require continuous 24-hour availability.
Physical Requirements
The position includes hands-on technical work and requires the ability to:
· Safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg) independently.
· Move and install computers, televisions, displays, UPS units, speakers, networking equipment, and similar technology.
· Perform cabling and equipment installation work.
· Use ladders where appropriate.
· Work in equipment rooms, underneath desks and counters, and other areas where technology equipment is installed.
The Person We Think Will Enjoy This Job
You are probably a good fit if you enjoy figuring out how things work.
When faced with something you have never seen before, your first reaction should be to investigate it rather than avoid it.
This role would suit someone starting an IT career who wants unusually broad hands-on experience, or an experienced technician who enjoys variety and does not want to spend every day doing the same type of support work.
