The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of local Indigenous communities. They must have demonstrated experience in applying Indigenous knowledge in a professional setting, adhering to cultural protocols, and working with a culturally safe approach. Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action and a commitment to advancing reconciliation are essential. This hands-on leadership role requires a strong field presence and the ability to coordinate crews, equipment, subcontractors, environmental requirements, and project schedules while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise field crews involved in pipeline right-of-way clearing, mulching, grubbing, forestry operations, road construction, and site preparation activities. Coordinate daily work plans, manpower, equipment assignments, and production targets. Provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership to operators, labourers, hand fallers, truck drivers, and subcontractors. Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional conduct across all work crews. Monitor daily production against contract requirements and project targets. Track quantities measured by hectares and linear metres. Complete daily reports, quantity tracking, equipment utilization reporting, and production records. Communicate productivity challenges and schedule impacts to Superintendents and Project Management. Assist with planning and resource allocation to maintain operational efficiency. project schedules and critical path requirements. Coordinate clearing and forestry activities to support downstream pipeline construction operations. Identify and communicate project constraints, risks, and delays. Ensure work progresses according to approved plans and project milestones. Ensure field compliance with Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs), wildlife mitigation requirements, crossing permits, and regulatory obligations. Monitor environmentally sensitive work areas and ensure crews understand project restrictions. Work closely with environmental inspectors and project representatives. Ensure environmental incidents and concerns are reported and addressed promptly. Interpret survey layouts, right-of-way boundaries, centreline stationing, offsets, and construction drawings. Ensure crews remain within approved work areas and project limits. Protect survey control points and construction reference markers. Coordinate and oversee hand-falling operations where required. Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, forestry safety standards, and approved work procedures. Participate in hazard assessments and work planning activities for forestry operations. Support safe execution of work in challenging terrain and remote environments. Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, inspections, and hazard assessments. Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and engagement. Ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation. Serve as a safety leader and role model for all field personnel. Maintain accurate daily reports, safety documentation, environmental records, and production tracking information. Communicate effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, clients, environmental personnel, and subcontractors. Support project reporting requirements and field documentation standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in forestry, pipeline right-of-way construction, resource road construction, heavy civil construction, or related industries. Previous supervisory experience leading crews in remote operating environments. Strong understanding of unit-rate production work and daily quantity tracking. Experience working on schedule-driven projects with critical path milestones. Working knowledge of pipeline construction sequencing and right-of-way operations. Understanding of Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs), environmental regulations, wildlife mitigation requirements, and permit compliance. Ability to read and interpret right-of-way survey layouts, construction drawings, and project plans. Working knowledge of hand-falling operations and forestry safety requirements. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Experience completing field documentation, daily reporting, and production tracking. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and potentially physical fitness testing
